That's true. We would doubtless implode without McGregor's talents at our disposal.

Is quite true though I think, hes a better player than guys like Crosas, Kayal, Donati and that who were all well liked. If he was signed for £1million from a foreign team he'd likely be much more highly thought of from the fans.

Kayal was a far better player. Donati and Crosas are well liked because they are people who had no connection to the club and ended up really taking to it. Nobody is saying they were great players for us.

Some people don't rate McGregor as much as others because he's an inconsistent player who often flatters to deceive. It's not because he's Scottish. Personally I think it's embarrassing as * that people think that's a valid reason.

Today is a perfect example of why he's a good guy to have about the squad, injury in the warm up he slots in and makes a contribution with no hassles.

He's neat and tidy and is a goal and assist threat. Might never get a run of a dozen games but so *, every squad needs his type.

Creative player, good in possession, good workrate, can play a few positions, cost nothing and probably on low wages.

Shouldnt be let go unless he wants to leave himself for a starting position at another team, you need good squad players like him. Not as good as Brown, Armstong or Rogic but not that much worse when he steps in either.

Good tidy player that overall takes his chances when given. A hard worker and a great goal from him today.
Not selected, Armstrong gets injured in the warm up. Can't ask much more than his back up to come in and break the deadlock and put in a good hard shift.

None of them are similar players and as has been said, Donati and Crosas were liked for their 'cult hero' status rather than their performances on the park most of the time.

I agree with Sean in saying that it's a nonsense cliché used as an excuse for folk to defend a player they like.

I don't mind McGregor but the reason I don't see him as a starter is not because his name is not Callemo Luis Da Silva McGrinho.:56:

Great to have a player like McGregor in the squad..

Although best in a central role, can play wide and has even been used at full back.

    Like him a lot.

Agreed he is a very good utility player. Can do a job in a variety of positions.
He impressed in the 2nd half yesterday to build on his fine finish in the first. His direct running was very good yesterday glided past a few defenders.

I think his consistency is his issue but is young and has been around the first team for a few seasons and he has scored a lot of goals for us. He is a little lightweight and needs to be stronger.
Has good potential to develop further.

He's this teams Charlie Mulgrew to be honest, utility man.

Does a decent job when called upon so for me he's a great guy to have about the squad.

He might not be the first name on the team sheet but his ability to fill in and do job and even put in some quality performances is priceless really. Selection issues? last minute injury problems?- fling in mcgregor.

He scores goals too- important goals and he is very direct I love players who just want to pick up the ball and run towards goal

CM on 27-game unbeaten run: "It’s a massive achievement. It’s unbelievable for the players and the staff."

CM: "We’ll just try to keep it going, take it as far as we can and see how far we can stretch it."

CM on challenge of going unbeaten for the full season: "It’s tough to do that, not many teams have done it."

CM: "We’re just looking at the next game."

CM on late call into squad on Sunday: "It was brilliant to be on the pitch and get a goal to help the team beat the run."

CM: "Competition is great. The more players you have performing it helps the team."

CM "You just try to be ready any time the manager calls on you and do your part."

CM on @AberdeenFC : "They’ve had a great season and they’ll come on Wednesday full of confidence."

CM: "We need to keep focused on ourselves and hopefully our style can take care of it."

For me it's also important to recognise other McGregor contributions.

His versatility and willingness to step in, has been well documented.
And domestically, in my opinion, he is in the top 5/6 midfielders in the SPL.

However his biggest asset is he's a homegrown player, who is regularly involved in the first team set up.
For anyone in the set up from under 8's-18's (with Tierney and Forest) there's a living breathing example of what can happen if you apply yourself.

    Great goal yesterday as well.

McGregor, Tierney, Henderson, Forrest and Aitchison all played on Sunday. Great to see homegrown players in the team, especially as they came all the way through from 9/10/11/12 years old. Unlike your Ajax and Barca's who take credit for producing players they signed at 15/16/17.
