Great move by the club. Guy has a wealth of experience and organised the defence really well earlier in the season.

Good news this. I always thought that even though he hasn't played much recently, he would be a good influence on the training ground and in the dressing room.

Having someone around who has played at the highest level is very important so this is really good news.

    Great news :50:

He seems like a real character in the dressing room, so makes sense to keep him around.

Not surprised, seems like a really shrewd move, noticed he wasnt on the pitch with the other substitutes at half time at Ibrox.

What's actually going on with Kolo then?

Last played randomly in the 3-4 Motherwell game (3rd December) having not played since Gladbach at home (19th October).

    Really strange.

It is strange. Jozo and Erik quite rightly have been the first choice partnership but Lustig has regularly been drafted into centre half rather than Kolo getting a game. Considering the impact he had at the start of the season it's a shame that he's not getting much action.

Been weird, makes you wonder if he is on some kind of contract where he only gets like £10k per week and £10k extra if he plays and since we've not needed him no point in wasting money.

I'd actually like him given another chance. Was immense start of season. A strange one

For all we know, this could be him telling Brendan that he's beginning to slow a bit (although he hasn't looked like it in his last appearances) and that he's looking more into the backroom side of things.

I still think at his best he's our best CB, so I hope we still get at least a few appearances out of him this season, and extend his deal past the summer.

*For the record, I'm not saying I'd value him higher than Jozo or Erik, but based on his form earlier in the year, his presence and poise at the back is unquestionable.

I've been led to believe he's on a higher wage than Broony. Love big Kolo, but for a player who doesn't get much games that's a bit of a worry.

Apologies. Just had a look. Apparently he's on a good wage like Brown, who's apparently on less than (just under I'd imagine) 20k a week.

I think it is just Brendan giving a younger guy (Boyata) a chance.

He knows all about Kolo and what he is capable of, so why not give Dedryck a chance to try and resurrect his career. Same with Simunovic in some ways. Better he comes into the side and improves that area long term.

Kolo was very much brought here as someone who Rodgers could trust in the big games at the start of the season and guide us through. He done his job and will now ease into coaching you'd imagine.

His influence behind the scenes probably cannot be underestimated either.

Maybe he has done a lot of work behind the scenes, an extra coach so to speak, but as a player I feel he has been disappointing with as many bad performances as good and a couple of howlers thrown in. He was abysmal against Barcelona and while I know he wasn't the only one to have had a bad game, although he was arguably the worst, he was the only one laughing on the pitch at full time. People might argue that the 20 minutes he came on in Israel have made him worthwhile but I'm not so sure. I think he is the only mistake that Brendan has made, by all accounts an expensive one too. I really don't get the love for him at all.

Has totally spurred Gordon on to a different level though.

that still doesn't mean de Vries when he's played has been a successful buy, in fact i would argue Kolo, for his early season form is less of a mistake than de Vries is.

As a whole it's made the squad much better though, Gordon says that himself. Kolo wasn't a mistake, he was a major reason we qualified for the Champions League and gained access to £30m odd quid.

Rodgers only 'mistake' still comes with a massive positive attached to it in what it has done to Gordon.

Anyone who thinks Toure was a mistake either didn't watch the qualifiers or has a very short memory.

Maybe Brendan wants to assess all our players in a match situation before deciding who has a future and who hasn't.

Christie got a few chances then got shipped out on loan which would suggest he thinks he needs a decent amount of game time at a decent level to progress. Henderson as well, has been in the squad a few times. I think he's in the same situation, might just be trying to find the right club for him to go to.

Maybe Boyata has impresses in training and BR thought he was due a start to see where he is in terms of capability.

Seems like almost every player in and around the first team squad has had a chance under BR. Some have not been seen since, which shows that he's not ready to hold on to guys he deems below his standards.

I think Kolo Toure is finished here as a player after a few dodgy performances but Brendan wants him around for his experience, helping our younger defenders, with a view to a coaching position at the end of the season.

Without Kolo Toure we weren't in the CL this season.

He is miles from being a mistake, and has paid for himself ten times over.

Kolo toure was a bargain really. Even a cheap punt on a normal CB who could be useless costs £1-2m then wages.

He just cost wages. Not too bad. Plus he helped in getting us a £30m windfall.
