Hopefully he is bluffing a bit in regards to Roberts.

Would like to think we'll try and get him for one more year at least.

I don't think Brendan is a big fan of Patrick Roberts as a player. When Scott Sinclair is fit I think Roberts will find himself back out the team again.

BR on #UCL: "If you look back to the first qualifier in Gibraltar, you can see the real growth in the team."

BR: "The main difference is the players' composure and belief at that level and the quality of their game."

BR: "[In the #UCL] the key component was, could we improve. I think we represented Celtic and Scottish football very well."

BR on potential signings: "We have to continually evolve, both on and off the field. We always look at where we can improve."

BR: "To bring players to Celtic, if it is about finance they probably will not come."

BR: "But if playing in front of 60,000 and #UCL football is of interest to you, then maybe."

BR on #UYL: "We watched the Dev Squad and it was great to see them imposing a similar style and idea as the first team against @ManCity."

BR: "There’s a lot more to come from this group. We can get help from a few players coming into the group."

BR on @MDembele_10: "He made a clever move coming here. Everyone is seeing the benefits now. He’s 20, very happy and shown what he can do."

BR on injuries: "@Scotty_Sinclair is coming along well. He will not be available this weekend but we are hopeful for the Dundee game."

BR: "James Forrest is the only doubt for the game [Partick Thistle], waiting on a scan."

BR: "He's been outstanding. Scoring goals, creating goals and working very hard tactically for the team."

BR: "If he's missing, it gives the opportunity to someone else. @Gary__11 came on last night and did very well."

SHOOTS of growth are evident at Celtic in the eyes of Brendan Rodgers after his team concluded their UEFA Champions League group-stage campaign in Manchester.

Despite not progressing to the next stage of the competiton, the Celts twice drew with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side, and were also unlucky not to claim all three points on the road at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Those results all followed a tough 7-0 loss to Barcelona in the group opener, which was also followed by a much-improved performance against the Catalan side in the correspinding fixture in Glasgow, indicating gradual improvement from the Bhoys under their Irish manager.

Brendan Rodgers said: “If I look back to when I first came in and that first qualifier in Gibraltar, and that was not that long ago, and you consider the performances we’ve had, particularly away from home in the two games against Monchengladbach and Manchester City, I think you’ve seen the real growth in the team in terms of the quality of their football, how composed they are at that level, the belief they have at that level, which is very important and also the quality of their game, both technically and tactically.

“This year’s experience, that was always going to be the key component for us – could we learn, could we improve? And once you get the taste of it, then it motivates and inspires you to go on.

“We’re obviously disappointed to not have it after Christmas but over the course of the six games it’s fair to say we represented Celtic as well as we possibly could at this stage and hopefully Scottish football, and we’ll look to continue to improve.”

The challenge for the manager is to now ensure his team’s momentum and thirst for improvement does not diminish over the coming weeks when they will be faced with a packed fixture schedule and a growing injury-list.

The games don’t stop for the Bhoys with just a two-day rest and recovery period between Tuesday’s tussle in Manchester and Friday’s Glasgow derby at Firhill, but he added that he has belief in his players’ desire to continue their upward trajectory.

“There’s a lot more to come and they need help as well, a few players that can help,” he said. “It’s a big credit to the players because you have to want to improve, learn and commit yourself and lead your life right every day in order to get to the level the players have been playing at.

“You’ve got to be fit and that means training well every day, looking after your diet and every aspect of your life and you’re not wasting your time and then you play within a game model that allows you to flourish.

"That’s been the beauty of it – watching the players impose this style of how we want to play in some of the most difficult venues you can play in.

“Having the composure to play a possession-based game with speed, quality and the creation of quality. More time will allow us to improve and just continually adding to the quality of the squad will also improve it.”

    I agree with this.

Roberts is obvious a fantastic wee flair player, but he offers next to * all defensively - which is something Rodgers isn't a fan of.

I think if Roberts was our player then Rodgers would be absolutely creaming himself over what he has on his hands and what he can mould him into.

I agree with this. I think he suffers a touch because we don't own him. Two players of similar ability, you own one, the otheris a loan. The one who is owned plays 9/10

Rodgers: “There is no better feeling when you are a manager seeing the relationship between training and the game.”

Rodgers: “I am absolutely loving walking into the club, working with the players. We’re still a long way off where I want to be.”

    Aye.

I'd disagree with saying he doesn't rate him, I definitely think he knows the kind of talent the guy has. In terms of the defensive side of things, ok, he isn't a powerhouse at getting back but you only need to look at James Forrest's transformation, I mean, look at his work rate now.

Roberts is only 19 and that side of his game could easily be worked on. We'd be daft not to want him here permanently.

Could see he wasn't happy in that first half.

Listening to him talking here you just know he is constantly thinking about how he can change the game. Its inspiring and I'm sitting at home in my livingroom watching it, never mind playing for the man and meeting him day in day out. Can see why almost every guy who plays for him loves it.
