Hi I won't requote as both posts are rather large.

Thanks to Sean Daleer and CymruBhoy for those informative posts.

I had no idea Cuban soldiers were involved in a war in Africa but as Mandela said, it was the only outside force that came to an African country's aid as all the rest came to take whatever valuables they could and enslave the people. Castro's Cuba actually helped to bring down Apartheid due to sheer force of will and belief of Castro that apartheid was an evil that had to be destroyed. All this time the West and so my surprise especially America were backing South Africa and wanted them to win the war so that investors interests would remain untroubled. Are there any countries outside of the World Wars were America has gone to their assistance and succeeded?

As if US behaviour in South Africa wasn't bad enough to read about then a list of American meddling in South America. It's completely shameful behaviour and cost a lot of lives. I knew America was meddling in the Middle East for quite some time now and totally destroying most of it as it intervened in practically every country. Prevented any chance of peace in Israel by contantly backing them with weapons and also using its veto in the UN to prevent International Law being enforced in Palestine/Israel.

The contrasting attitudes and beliefs of 'Castro and successive US regimes is striking. He led his Internationalists with the sole intention of helping countries out and giving them aid and military help when needed but it was all defensive as far as I can tell.

Then we have America which seems to want to control the world and every part of it rather than using its power as a force for good it constantly seeks to control who is running any country and replacing them with violence if they didn't agree with them?

How Castro managed to keep Cuba protected and independent under such relentless attacks from the US is remarkable, I think America even instructed all other countries in the world against trading with Cuba. What the * is up with the USA? I guess I can't be overly critical as Britain destroyed half the world when building its Empire and then leaving its Emprire caussed even worse destruction.

And people will say this dictator who died today was an evil man who killed thousands of opponents when our own leaders killed 100s of thousands or people they regarded as enemies when most of them were not.

I know I will ignore it because that is the only way to deal with it, I will be disgusted with American and British behaviour in South Africa but I'll have to put it to the back of my mind because the guilt would be overwhelming otherwise. It's impossible to comprehend a lot of the brutal behaviour and hegemony of the country of my birth. We really should have a different remembrance day each year where we hang our heads in shame and remember all the people we have killed in cold blood and the lives we have ruined in our pursuit of plunder.

Fidel Castro was a great man compared to any of them.

You conveniently forget that he went hough a complete transformation in his life and became the opposite of his original beliefs. By the end of his life he was almost the opposite of his former self.

That's true. His views moved closer to MLK's.

It's why the NOI assassinated him in the end.

That's disingenuous at best. Have you read what the NOI taught?

''Black people were the original people of the world, and that white people were a race of devils who were created by an evil scientist named Yakub''

He was a dictator. I don't dispute it nor do I condone it. His defence for that fact would come from the American embargo and unlimited attempts on his life.

Personally I disagree. I think it is time for a free vote for the people of Cuba. I think that for all nations. What I can't abide is the acceptance by some of one dictator whilst beating the drum against another. Total hypocrisy and the US is the worst for this

And he was shot by the monsters he effectively created.

It doesn't really matter if he changed his mind. Once a * always a *.
