He gives players such confidence, that's the most impressive thing about him. Man management is one of the most important aspects of management, you can be a tactical genius but if the players don't believe in what you're saying or have the confidence to carry out your instructions then it's just not going to work as well as you hope.

“It looks like the injury is to the top of his foot. When he came off he said his foot was numb.

“Should the Scotland fans be concerned? I’m more concerned about the Celtic fans.

It's like Brendan is just playing Fifa.

BRENDAN Rodgers was delighted with the performance from his side against Inverness Caley Thistle on Saturday as they ran out 3-0 winners courtesy of goals from Scott Sinclair, Leigh Griffiths and Tom Rogic.

The Hoops went into the game on the back of an impressive but demanding European display away to Borussia Monchengladbach, and the Celtic manager praised their efforts on the return to domestic action.

“When you come off the back of the run of games that we’ve had – our last four games in particular away from home – to produce that performance, keep another clean sheet and show that energy in the game was particularly impressive,” the Hoops boss said. “It was a really good result and performance.”

Celtic had lined up with a back three of Mikael Lustig, Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko, but the manager was forced to change things early in the game when Lustig picked up an injury. Emilio Izaguirre came on at left-back, with Stuart Armstrong moving from midfield to right-back, where he produced a Man of the Match performance.

And there was a further injury scare in the second-half when Scott Brown was forced to go off, making the Celtic skipper a doubt for the forthcoming Scotland v England World Cup qualifier.

“Scott doesn’t come off easily so we’ll just have to see how that is,” the Celtic boss said, “but there’s no news on him or Mika. But you know that when Scott comes off, it’s a sore one. We’ll know more in the next 24 hours. It looked like his foot – when he came off, he said his foot was numb.”

After a goal-less first-half, when Inverness Caley Thistle – the only team to have taken any Premiership points off Celtic this season – tried to frustrate the Hoops, the home side stepped up the pressure in the second-half.

Scott Sinclair netted the first goal of the game three minutes into the second-half, before Leigh Griffiths doubled the lead just after the hour mark. And Tom Rogic added a third late in the game.

And the Celtic manager was delighted at the way his side continued to take the game to their opponents, even at the end of a demanding run of fixtures.

“There’s been a lot said about young Callum McGregor missing in midweek,” he said, “but you should write about his pass – the improvisation and the ability that he had to flick it in between two defenders to set Scotty up. And then once we got that goal we started to move through the gears a bit.

“One of the things I learned from the last game at the back end of the international break was we’d gone through a run of six games, big-energy performances, and we played Dundee. We won the game but I thought we were a little bit flat.

“We got the result, which was great credit to the players, but I always felt that with the run of games I wanted to make changes to make sure the energy was in the team because it’s so important to how we play.

“So making the changes gave us that energy, and you could see in the second-half, even after the run of games we’ve had, we’ve still got that mentality not to concede – that’s six games domestically we’ve not conceded – we were flooding forward on the attack, so the players that came in did really well.”

Only get over for a couple of home games a season and was at match on Saturday in main stand. Some right miserable sods in there! They were complaining about every side pass. Noticed how Brendan looked round at fans in main stand several times in first half as if to say "what more do you * want". Honestly, would hate to see these fans in lean times! It's a great time to be a Tim and we have a young, progressive, clued in manager from a Celtic background. Don't * him off and enjoy the ride. Hail Hail!

BR on international break: "I was still busy looking at games but it was fine.

BR on players who stayed behind: "A mixture of rest but they have still been working hard.

BR: "We have had a busy schedule so for the players who had an opportunity to recover it was very beneficial."

BR: "We still have a couple more to come back tomorrow. Tom Rogic will be back tomorrow along with Emilio.

BR: "Cristian Gamboa came back a bit earlier as he wasn’t able to play in the second game because of a yellow card so he was fine."

BR on the quick turnaround from int. break: "Not ideal. We had 14 players away over this break, so over 50 per cent of your squad.

BR: "I would assume we had the most int. players away on duty in Scotland and yet we are the team playing on Friday.

BR: "It means I really need to have a look at the team in terms of the setup and the fitness of the players, so not ideal preparation.

R: "If we'd had an extra day then it would have benefited us greatly.

BR on Steven Gerrard speculation: "Players coming into the club, I never speculate on or speak about and don’t intend to start.

BR: "Only thing I'd say is Steven has been an incredible player. Had a number of years with him at @LFC & he was absolutely brilliant

BR: "He has decided to go to America & I'm sure he has had a good spell there & Steven will sit down now & decide what he wants to do."

BR: "In terms of the speculation, I'm not sure where it's come from, but players coming into the club will always remain private."

BR on Kilmarnock match: "Delighted for Lee as he came here with his team & it was a tough day for them but they responded really well."

BR: "They will be a danger. They are playing at home and will want to well and they have had some good results.

BR: "It's on an artificial pitch which always adds something different to it as we are not used to playing on it."

BR on Nir Bitton: “That was something between him and his (int.) coach. Never had a problem with Nir, been an excellent professional."

BR on @MDembele_10 scoring twice for France U21s: “I watched the game. He was outstanding."

BR: You can see the boy’s quality and when you think he has just turned 20 as well."

BR: "The 1st goal was great movement & a great finish. After his 2nd goal, I'm sure he will be fighting to get on the free-kicks here!

BR: "He has already sent me that message after the game! It was a very good free-kick and arguably he could have had 3 or 4.

BR: "A big talent. A player of 20 on a good and long contract here & hoping he can develop well here over next couple of years.

BRENDAN Rodgers says it’s not a satisfactory situation for Celtic to have such a swift turnaround from the international break given the amount of players at the club who were away representing their countries.

Around half of the Hoops squad were absent on national service for the latest round of international fixtures, with the likes of Emilio Izaguirre, Cristian Gamboa and Tom Rogic travelling huge distances.

The champions will resume action on Friday night at Kilmarnock just 24 hours after Izaguirre and Rogic land back in Glasgow and reported back for duty.

And the manager admits he will need to factor in these circumstances when he considers his team for the match at Rugby Park.

“We still have a couple more to come back tomorrow,” he said. “Tom Rogic will be back tomorrow along with Emilio. Cristian Gamboa came back a bit earlier as he wasn’t able to play in the second game because a yellow card so we got him back as quickly as he could and he was fine.”

“It’s obviously something that isn’t ideal. We had 14 players away over this break, so that’s over 50 per cent of your squad that is away.

“I would assume we have had the most international players that have been away on duty up here in Scotland yet we are the team who are playing on the Friday.

“Obviously this means I need to look at the team in terms of the set-up and the fitness of the players. It’s not ideal preparation and they never usually are on the back of an international break but if we have had an extra day that would have benefited us greatly.”

The players who stayed behind at Lennoxtown during international week had a chance to recharge their batteries and work on aspects of their game.

“There was a mixture of rest but they have still have been working hard,” said the Hoops boss. “We have had a busy schedule so for the players who had an opportunity to recover a little it was very beneficial. But at the same time they have worked hard on aspects of their game that we feel, individually, they can improve on and they are now getting ready for the next batch of games through to December.”

The Bhoys brushed Kilmarnock aside 6-1 in the previous meeting between the sides in Paradise but Brendan Rodgers is expecting a tough test from Lee Clark’s side as his team look to maintain their impressive start to the league campaign and cement their spot at the top of the table.

“I’m delighted for Lee because he came here with his team and it was a tough day for them but after that game, they responded really well,” said the Irishman.

“They will be a danger as they are playing at home and will want do to well and they have had some good results after our game. It’s an artificial pitch and that always adds something different as we are not used to playing on that.

“We go into the game looking to restart our league campaign in a positive way. Like all the games, it will be tough so it will be up to us to get the three points.”
