Commemoration of the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I

I shall be having a quiet moment at 11.11am tomorrow.

Not to be confused with Remembrance Sunday.

Is that because we promised ourselves this would never happen again?

Im actually sick of it, and sick of the way we seem to getting more and more like America. I have always given more than a thought to the fallen, but it is really starting to grate on me now the way we are being directed and almost ordered to stop breathing at 11.am. I mean i wouldnt mind too much if the lessons were learned and we never sent troops abroad to fight anymore.....but nothing has changed.

What is it that makes you sick, is it that you have to be silent for two minutes.

Who's directing you to do anything? If you don't want to participate in it, don't. It's easy to ignore.

Your post and opinion has got nothing to do with the thread, an agreement made by opposing sides in a war to stop fighting

Ah that makes sense now, taking the time to make your opinion known on a subject that you don't care about

The hype. Its has become like * xmas. The build up, Armistice day, Remembrance day, the pressure on people to observe.....* supermarkets grinding to a halt etc...its ridiculous. It used to be a wee build up with poppys, and then remembrance day and that was it. Now.....its out of control. Tesco will be putting in an aisle of WW1 foodstuffs next.........in September!
