The colours of the Basque flag are red, green and white and is in the style of the union jack. The Basque flag was flown above the Jungle for many years following the visit of Real Sociedad(I think).I have seen this flag displayed among Celtic supporters on a number of occasions, although Im sure there are versions in Irish colours. As long as I can remember the Saltire and the Union Jack have flown over the main stand at Celtic Park,I havent checked for ages, but I would imagine this is still the case.

yeah but i think the media has hyped up the catholic thing far too much....although of course it is predominantly true.....dont see the need to highlight it as much as it has been...any introduction to celtic is that we are a catholic club....no other club in the world gets that even though there are meant to be protestant clubs and catholic clubs in all the big cities....i dont think its that black and white anywhere else than in glasgow and edinburgh....which one is the "catholic" club in merseyside, manchester, birmingham? couldnt tell ya...

manchester, birmingham and to a lesser extent liverpool are not as divided religiously as glasgow so therefore dont attract fans because of religion, although it is mostly catholics who support everton. none of the clubs in those cities were founded specifically to help one religious group whereas celtic were. i agree we shouldn't be classified as a catholic club as that makes us sound exclusive, but thats our history whether you like it or not

but there are also plenty of people who dont like it, think it cheapens an area, think it makes people who dont identify with the flag uncomfortable in a given area, think it reeks of insecurity, think it claims an area when it should be up to individuals. You dont have to fly flags all the time to feel part of a country. I think its daft and the man who invented flags has a lot to answer for but everyone is entitled to their own view.

I would agree with that. Its the same with scarfs. Stick to the green and white hoops. No need for all the badges, flags and slogans Stick to club symbols and leave the politics behind.

The Celtic Song so long as Dean Park doesn't sing it.
Personally I don't have a problem with the Union flag, it is obvious though that some football supporters are thick enough to fly it in my face expecting a different response. Small minds eh! The Union Jack is flown at sea by the way, the Union Flag is flown on land. The Union Flag was born from the amalgamation of Britain and Ireland, Catholic Scotland took exception to this and no wonder and attempted a few changes to it's design up until the union of the Crowns (1707) with the white St Andrews Cross as dominant. There was riots in Scotland when the Union happened, Daniel Defoe (the author) was an English spy who helped the cause along with the Campbell and lowland clan names. The Protestant immigrant clog wearing king and the earlier civil war together with the defeat of the Catholic Stuarts in 1715 and 1746 put paid to that. The Union flag is just an amalgum of National flags except Wales and NI in the one, each with it's own pride and history. It is not an anti catholic banner just a politically pleasing flag for the populace of ENGLAND SCOTLAND AND EIRE who supported the Union of the Crowns and government, based in London - lovely :47:

I don't have a problem with it because I am Scottish and somewhat more the wiser than the average traitorous hun!

i hate flags on lamposts, we dont really do that in the falls, we have designated areas with official flagpoles otherwise you're right it does cheapen the area and the flag. you shouldn't have to constantly impose yourself by flying flags and to feel like part of a country but its such a contentious issue here that both sides do feel insecure about it and need to reaffirm their allegiance by being able to look out their window and see their chosen flag. childish and petty i know but its impossible to explain to someone not from belfast:celt_2::celt_2::celt_2::celt_2::celt_2::celt_2::celt_2::celt_2::celt_2::celt_2:

i would never disagree with anyone calling rangers bigoted but the reason we got labelled the catholic team is because we were founded by a catholic, supported by catholics and our players were catholics. cant understand why you cant accept this, it doesn't make us exclusive or sectarian its just our history

the original flag for peace was the tricolour, green for natioalist/catholic, orange for unioinist/protestant and white for peace between the two. Somehere down the line this has been forgotten.

We play in the Spl, the Scottish Premier League. We don't play in the Eircom Premier League. We are not situated in Cork, Dublin or Limerick. We come from Glasgow. We should be flying Scotland flags and Celtic flags and flags with the players on them. I would love to see flags with Nakamura, Boruc and Skipee on them, alongside Celtic flags and Scottish flags.

this football club that we all love was founded by an irishman to help irish immigrants in glasgow and disadvantaged catholics in glasgow to integrate into the community and give us a focal point so we should never ever turn our back on that fact. are you saying you'd like to see flags with pictures of players who have been at parkhead for 5 minutes but not a tricolour? players will come and go but we our history will never change:celt_2:
