Is it not the Basque flag? Similar colours just red instead of Gold.

its got nothing to do with the basques, its a symbol of unity between britain and ireland, a compromise. i * hate it

it started as a bit of fun by people with a sense of humour in Northern Ireland who are fed up with UJ/TC flag wavers that blight the place. I kind of agree with them. Flag waving in a conflict situation is not particularly clever. For some its just tradition but for others its a wind up.

You saw it in Fulham so it was probably a London-Irish thing. The London Irish punk-rock band Neck use it as a logo for example. I think it's a bit of a * take of the Union Jack, but personally I wouldnt want anything to do with the flag.

you're an expert on what people in ireland think about flags? it fills me with pride every day walking to work and being able to see the tricolour flying because we fought long and hard to be able to fly it, it does not blight the place at all it brightens the place up if anyhting and i'm sure if you ask someone from the shankill what they think of the union jack flying in their area they'd say the same thing:celt_2:

dont know why the * we dont fly our own scottish flag, after all thats what we are??althought Celtic was formed in 1888 by Brother Walfred, who was an Irish monk that came over to Scotland so that he could give to the Irish that were living in Scotland something that they could be part of and proud of,that was now over 120 years ago and it has long since been a prominent scottish catholic football club, although our dear friends from across the way are also part of the history of the club, it is on scottish soil and we should be proud to be scottish

    fly the flag

totally agree, there will always be a strong link between celtic and ireland because of our history but celtic are scottish and british club founded by an irishman so fly the the saltire, tricolour and union jack together:celt_2:

and so it should be LOL, i dont know about the comment above about the union jack flying , due to personal views of what the queen and state stand for i don't personally wish for that flag to be on view anywhere in scotland, but as i say that is a pesonal view based on what the royals stand for

you are british whether you like it or not, it would end any accusations of sectarianism aimed at celtic. if we're gonna fly national flags at parkhead then it should include flags for those those who consider themselves irish, scottish and british

It says you are irish(from belfast) in your profile so my question would be do you consider yourself scottish? @ first guess i would say you answer would be no, so why should be consider ourselves english or any other nationality, when we had our own battle for an independent state, i dont whant to fall out with anyone but why should we fly a british flag @CP for people who consider them selves british when we wouldn't fly a pakistan national flag for a asian suporter who stayed in glasgow and supported celtic and considered them selves of pakistanian nationality? :50:

From what I understand it is just supposed to be a symbol of peace and unity I suppose. I don't like it, I know the Union Jack is just a mix of the English,Scottish and N.I flags (not sure where the Welsh fits in) but I'd rather my country's colours were not associated with it.

As for general flag flying, Im not a fan of it. Don't mind club flags at matches but I hate the way people in N.I fly them from their houses. Keltoi is right, it makes the place look a mess and is tacky. As Clagan said, yeah it does make me feel proud but only when they are in the right places.
