There is no difference between a "fan" and a "supporter". Just another word.

I'd definitely say some are more passionate about Celtic than others - this forum goes to prove it in fact, too many out there more than happy just to moan and moan and moan like * about the team and it's players every week.

Somewhat contradictory from what you've just been saying in the "What's needed in January" thread... rocket!

If you live in the Glasgow vicinity and only ever go to 'big' games - the zombies, Europe - then no, you are not supporting the club in the same way as someone who buys a season ticket.

But I suppose every club as fans like that.

I would say a supporter is someone who is more active than a fan. But I guess that isnt based on anything - just how I use the words.

Supporting a football team is a hobby and like all hobbies there will be degrees of dedication from people who like whatever the pastime in question is. Some people will never watch a Celtic game but when asked will say Celtic are their favorite team. Some will tune in to see results and watch the odd big game on the tv. Some will go to every home game. Some every home, away, and follow them throughout Europe. Some may love them more than anything but are broke so have never been to a game. I dont see why it matters.

Football is quite peculiar in that there seems to be an almost arrogance around someone being more "hardcore" or dedicated than someone else. Actually, football team marketing often promote this idea to punt more tickets and merchandise. I am happy to admit that there are plenty of bigger supporters than myself.

This is the perfect thread for this then. I had the audacity to defend Nir Bitton In the "What's needed in January" thread against the numerous "he's a *" comments made by you (Pie Face), Mcguire1, Gyo Rosetti & Dr Frasier Crane.

As a consequence you have called me a *, wee boot, bender and now sleekit wee jobbie lol... oh the irony. Good to meet you fellow Celtic supporter. :60:

Your poll question is very misleading. Of course there are varying levels of fans supporters. Some are hardcore, others take a passive interest. The way you ask the question immediately implies a negative connotation.

You can have fans who support the club more actively than others, it doesn't make them better, they just have more of an active interest that's either due to money, location or work, family etc...

There are amusing quotes sometimes bemoaning atmosphere or attendance from behind a keyboard and it tends not to be those who would be at the game if they could but can't for one reason or another.

I know a guy that goes to the games, we used to work together. His Da pays for his ticket etc, used to sit on my break and talk to him about Celtic and honestly it was always me doing the talking he knew * all that was going on, he just went to games cause it was something to do. He'd get a swally before it, go half cut then go to the dancin later on. I'm not a season ticket holder I wish I could afford it but I buy a ticket at least once a month and go to a game.

There is people that go to the games that are massive supporters live and breath Celtic and then there's people who just go cause its what they do. And its the same for people who don't go they live and breath Celtic and then there's some who still support us but not a great deal where it * up their day if we lose haha.

Yet if that fan from Australia travels to one game a year then he could be out more money and time then some who go to matches on a semi regular basis.

Before I had my second child I traveled over regularly from Ireland in the region of 12 to 15 times a year. Now I average 2 to 3 games a year. I don't thinl I have become any less a supporter or fan because of my change in circumstance.

There is a huge difference between moaning about a Celtic players ability, personality or current form and then hurling obscene offensive abuse at them from behind your keyboard. Would love to see you voice these opinions to him in person ya muppet... you'd end up in the cells so what makes it ok on here... nothing!

People with more disposable income shouldn't just be called better supporters because of it, surely? A better measurement would be working out how much money people spend on Celtic as a percentage of their disposable income, and even then you wouldn't get the full answer.

That going to more games thing is a lot of nonsense.

You would also need to add the time spent traveling to and from games. Taking days off work to travel to CL games would also be a factor.

Such a ridiculous argument that I've seen done to death over the years on this site.

Fair * to every single fan that puts their hard earned money into the club week in, week out, full of respect for that. Some going.

I've more respect for the men/women who do what they can to support the club while putting their wages into supporting their families.

This argument is probably peddled by 18-24 year old boys, who have very little responsibilities in life other than a five day week at work and a phone bill.

Everyone's situation is different, some live abroad, differences in salaries, family responsibilities (not just monetary, but actually spending time with them after working Mon-Fri), both mental and physical problems/disabilities ect. It's endless.

Had a * on the bus make some comments like that on Sunday. Haven't been down for a while as I only get one Sunday off a month and can't always afford it.

Ignored the fact that I went to every home and as many aways games as possible for years on the same bus as him.

Cannae be arsed with fuds like that.

Celtic supporters as with all supporters will have its fanatics & it's fair weather fans. I've had pals that have had their marriages break down over their need to follow the club everywhere & at the other end of the scale pals who know * all about the club outside of big Euro nights. I would never deny any of them their attachment to the club. What I would say is that we should all endeavour to contribute financially in some way no matter how small. Buy a kit/merchandise, a ticket a Celtic TV subscription, whatever. We have all at some point taken great enjoyment out of following this club & will continue to do so. In order to see it continuing to thrive, finances will inevitably play a role whether we like it or not. I don't get to as many games as I used to but I will buy a couple of kits each season, a good few tickets & my CTV. That to me gives me my right to whinge/moan/complain, celebrate/enjoy/gloat. It's my cost of membership if you will.

If you are poor or have a family to support or live other side of the world you are less of a fan.
judged by your wallet or post code....is that what we have become....pathetic.
