I know the old system can’t return however if they are charging for a system that is not as simple to use and is far more clunky they have a brass neck. I think I even read CM saying that he had to knock ‘some digits’ off when he was adding Busters credits, Christ knows how he will get on when StPauli wants his added :56:

The fiver on the old forum also got you access to the Arcade and Casino. They don't exist on the new forum so Sportsbook is being used as a GM incentive. Correct decision imo.

True they can so instead of betting extreme amounts and me doing specials, members can bet more reasonably.

We can add betting limits with this program, that's something that I might consider doing so that it's harder for people to max out.

I guess I've not helped in that respect, but then again, I didn't know that we'd be limited this time around.

I think in time you'll get used to using the new Sportsbook, takes a bit longer to bet but also takes a * of a lot longer to put them up.

Firstly lets see if I have hopefully mastered the multi quote function here ...

So the old system offered - bookie, casino and arcade and was free, now having the bookies costs. While it costs having it, the sportsbook, I assume the cost wont increase whether its 10 users or 110 so I just think, imo, it would be better to allow everyone to use it and the incentive is the Huddle. Although people shouldn't be made to feel like they have to subscribe either.

Aye I had worked that out based on CM's post.

I don't know if the arcade, casino and vbookie were all free with the software, but 2 of them were used as additional incentives for donations, to keep the site running. It goes without saying that no-one is under any obligation to donate a fiver. The majority of the site is free to use.

You're probably right by saying that the Sportsbook add on costs the same regardless of ampunts of users, but GM's are the people who help keep the site running and deserve something in return, in my opinion.

We're hardly forcing people to subscribe, you can use every other part of the site (unlike other popular forums).

I wish people would understand running large sites like this doesn't come cheap, nor does moving to new software and addons. Moving wasn't just for the craic, we had major issues with the last forum so it was absolutely vital for the site to survive. I know people are having teething issues with the new software, that's understandable, but it's here to stay. I'll add a couple more skins, but that's the best I can do to make you feel more at home.

Deary me people should maybe read what I have posted. It would also help if people didn't take 'an opinion' personal and go on the defensive. I also never said I need to feel more at home on the site either.

The V Bulletin format was much much better IMO.
This skin looks far too white and is deeply impersonal. Lack of signatures only adds to the lost effect.
My fear is we will see many established posters dropping off from TC and potential new ones discouraged from joining.
I know these sites cost money to run but the old version was far superior and was the personal touch that
made Talk Celtic what it was .
The lack of familiar smilies and the long extended narrative makes it look like you are reading a book instead of someone's post.
I can't take to it all and it reminds me of many former sub standard Celtic sites that went bust because of a lack of users.
No users means a dead site and people will just migrate elsewhere.

i agree with most of what you say but if you take the time to read other posts, there had to be this switch.

It's not just about agreeing Manibhoy, in fact its nothing to do with agreeing, but its more about finding creative solutions.
My own suggestion would be for to try and dumb down the shocking and visually impairing whiteness of the skin, and make the green a deeper shade to contrast it, and try and tighten up the posting boxes to make them easier on the eye. In other words, I am sure we must have some adept and astute website builders on Talk Celtic who could help proactively in making this new site resemble more closely the old site.

I guarantee you that doesn't happen.

In fact, when it becomes apparent the database errors have disappeared and folk are aware of how sleek and quick the new format is it will attract people.

The Forum looks far more professional just now in it's infancy than the old one which had years to bed in.

As ever, I beg to differ with your opinion.
If it don't change rapidly, I think TC is doomed.
    Just my opinion of course.

Think you'll get more people signing up as it's definitely more mobile friendly now. Far easier to post while 'on the go' now. Just need to watch though as it's also easier for nosey * looking over your shoulder to read as well :celtman2:
