Some people will always moan, if we had brought someone in at the stroke of midnight yesterday there would still be folk on here crying about us scrambling to sign people last minute and the board should have had everything done 3 weeks ago.

That said, I really wish we had got a solid DM in place, but overall I'm happy with the business we did, yet to see Gamboa play but we have to assume he's an improvement on Janko (RIGHT???) and everyone else we signed is of a higher calibre than we've been used to signing the last few years, best window in ages imo.

Think people focus on transfer fees a bit too much and think that means we haven't invested, the players we brought in were all from england and would be on decent wages, wouldn't be surprised if they're our top earners now.

Are we still able to ship players on loan to England when their loan market opens or is it between clubs in England only?

I don't get why so many people are so keen to be parted with the club's hard-earned. Especially on deadline day deals.

First of all, any transfer that is left to the last day, in terms of bringin players in, reeks of desperation.

While it is great to have a huge deal done in the last few hours of deadline day, aka like Robbie Keane, doesn't matter how high profile that season was still a big disappointment as Mobray was so desperate, perhaps too desperate to move out so many of the players he had inhereted from WGS that it was one of the contributing factors to a pretty disasterous season on the whole, and for Mowbray most especially. The Keane signing reeked of desperation as Desmond dug into his own pocket to finance it, given how precarious thw Hoops had been performing that year, and needed that signing to get fans to keep turning up through what would be a pretty tough few months til the season ended with Lenny at the helm.

That season alone should be all you need to know about trying to change too quickly, about being impatient, about wanting so many new faces in during a short space of time, and about making deals without a clear strategy.

Evolving the team gradually is what Rodgers is undertaking and doing it sensibly. Had transfer targets in mind, did the business he wanted and no need to panic buy on deadline day.

Secondly, because unless there is an offer too good to refuse, clubs are always going to pay over the odds on deadline day, as clubs get desperate. They think they need that one more piece, or there is a shortage here, or coverage there, or that one marquee player that is going to be all the difference. It really doesn't matter what the need of the player is to the club, bie it a big star or a developing talent, a club is goig to pay more than the player is worth on a deadline day deal.

The club has a strategy. Rodgers has a strategy.

Panic buying is not part of that strategy.

The incessant doom and gloom is actually becoming hard work on here.

We just signed a top top manager, EPL level players and qualified for the CL.

I really fail to see the downside this season, I'm well excited for the future.

It's a bit like buying a Ferrari and putting £40 tyres on it.

If that is the way you want to look at it then knock yourself out. Personally I'm going to keep riding the wave of optimism surrounding the club just now.

    Well said my good man!

I think some of these crackpots on here think the transfer window revolves around one singular day :56:

I think people were upset we didn't sign anyone on deadline day, not because it was deadline day but because the business some of us wanted done since qualifying for the CL hadn't been done and we all expected something to happen. I can't imagine people actually think the transfer window revolves around deadline day.

That's the point though, no one on here thinks the transfer window lasts one day. Which makes it worse that we've had 2 months to address the most key area on the pitch and the weakest area in our squad in defensive midfield, and done nothing about it.

The reason for the anger and the desperation on here is that our fans, quite rightly, hoped that the board had something up their sleeve in order to address this. Particularly with the guaranteed addition of Champions League money. No one is asking the board to panic buy. Is that not what a scouting network is for? To have a list of targets for a specific position on the park? No one is expecting the board to bid £8million for someone on the last day that we know nothing about.

Good post mate and it makes a lot of sense..

However a footballing strategy without a midfielder with presence, who defends first, is a flawed one.. Surely our perfomance in Israel highlighted that!

I get why a lot of people are annoyed but it's really not so bad. We've got a much stronger squad than we started the season with, and we're in the Champions League.

Rodgers has admitted that the 'crazy' part of the season is over, and he'll now have time to do a bit of scouting etc. We've got a lot more work to do between now and 12 months time but we've made a good start.

Well said. Just be ready for the moaning & greeting comments from people who struggle to read comments properly and jump in with poor attempts at put downs because they're too lazy or daft to put up a counter argument.

Maybe the day itself was a slight disappointment, as Rodgers himself said we needed one more, but the window overrall ticked almost every box.

New Keeper, new experienced defender, new RB, quality backup/support for Griffiths, top winger in Sinclair.

On top of that a large amount of the deadwood cleared;Blackett, Richards, Cole, Stokes, Mulgrew, Scepovic, Janko, Johansen, Fisher, all gone plus Allan on loan. The only real disappointments are that we couldn't shift Ciftci, Efe, Boyata, GMS & Armstrong or sort loans for Christie, Commons and Henderson.

I'm pleased we "missed out" on McCarthy tbh, as he would have been an incredibly expensive, overrated panic buy and not really necessary - he's never played a European game so doubt he could have revitalised our midfield.

We've already achieved the seasons' target by qualifying, and we've never been embarrassed in the CL - last time in the groups was our worst ever performance and we still got 3 points from a group containing 3 former European champions. I have no concerns whatsoever about us in Europe and even if we do get pumped, we're 30 million up and the players gain great experience to go on and win the treble at home.

Even if we didn't qualify for the Champions League I wanted us to sign a new central midfielder.

But we did qualify. Which, even the people who hate to admit can't argue against, won us millions upon millions. Yet we still didn't get a midfielder.

    It is a major letdown.

The thing is, by all accounts we did try to address it but for one reason or another we couldn't get the targets we wanted.

Surely you don't want us to then just buy someone for the sake of it?

Personally I'm more than happy to bide our time until January and get the right players in rather than just shut out eyes and pick a name out a hat.

Surley there was more than one target though if our whole day was around trying to just get McCarthy then it makes it even worse
