People need to have a massive reality check on both what our position is in the transfer market and also our pull factors as a team playing in Scotland. We are relatively poor and play in a poor league and have to live within our means whether you like it or not. People saying we should be spending 6 7 8 9 million on one player aren't engaging their brains. The transfer window was good and we will do fine in the champo league, we wouldnt have qualified from that group if we signed iniesta so everyone needs to chill the * out

I don't get this speculation unless anyone can confirm we missed out on player X due to the board being tight with money?

When Ryan Mason is going for £12m I think it has been loud and clear from the beginning that Celtic can't sign who they want and need to operate shrewdly.

Hey, it's early. My SOH usually gets up around 11. It was up late last night.

i take it this is a joke ???

direct quote from Rodgers on the 14th

"If we could get one more player in that would be the ideal. If we do that we’d have had an incredible market in terms of what we’ve been able to bring in – the club couldn’t have done any more. They have given me great support"

after this we signed Cristian Gamboa

    Cole
    Derk
    Stokes
    Ckr
    Johansen
    Scepovic
    Mulgrew
    Fisher
And whoever else is out on loan is a considerable saving on wages I'd imagine the transfer fees we brought in for Johansen and scepovic sell on for wanyama has covered what we spent. ,so where has the money from champions cup, champions league ,season ticket sales , £12mill we got for van dijk been spent on the team????

Who says we need spend £8-£10m?

We could spend £30-£50m and still not make it out that group.. It's about investing properly in the squad..

We're weak in the DM/CM area and when we let Johansen leave, surely we need to replace him..

We've strengthened well in this window but seem to have shown the usual lack of ambition towards the end of the window, which has somewhat soured things..

We should be on a high and one signing would have kept that momentum going..

No one is asking for 9 million valued players.
6 million at a push, aye.
But the sinclair deal in it self is * proof that we can get a player aged 27 to sign for a reasonable price on reasonable wages. And that's from * England. Are we to believe that there was no central midfielder better than we have currently in the whole of Europe in the range of 3-5 million?
I'm not buying that one couldn't be ffound, and I'm not buying that celtic, Rodgers, champions league etc is not a big enough pull for some of them. It was for sinclair. And we all consider that a good bit of business.

Yes it would have been good to see a player like that come in but it seems like we were looking at players and a deal just couldn't be done.

It's more difficult for us to operate than a lot of other teams and sometimes deals just can't be done.

Must be the exchange rate and why we're shopping in Britain. Old £3m players are now alot more.

He obviously wanted a CM & I'm assuming he had more than just one in mind. If he's doing his job right then there would have been a few, the fact we never managed to get any lies at the feet of Lawell & I can't imagine Rodgers is best pleased.

The only positive I see is that one of the younger guys like Henderson, Ajer will get to show what they can do. As for Europe tho forget it, was an uphill task anyway but I fear some major humiliations along the way.

To Lawell he'll be thinking what's the point in spending for the sake of it, he's just happy to be there isn't he? Getting beat by Barca 3-0 with a couple of key signings as opposed to 6-0 without them makes no difference to him, he'd rather keep the money in the bank whereas for us fans it makes a huge difference. That's the disconnect right there.

This is a lazy and tiresome argument. No-one is asking us to spend £6-9 million on players other than a delusional & insignificant minority with no grasp on finance.

What is certainly within our grasp is players upto £4 million.

Let's all just sit and reminisce about the old days (i.e. before about the last 6 weeks) when the transfer section of this forum was filled with the line "not another * midfielder!" :56:

Wish folk would stop using the English market as a benchmark for transfers. Not as if there's a full world of players out there that we could afford. Even then, there are some bargains to be had shopping in England. Forster, Hooper, Ledley, Wilson.. even this window we have picked up some players from down south that could be looked at as bargains in a few years.

If we had signed a good midfielder everyone would be buzzing this morning. As usual it feels like we're falling short on quality in a key position. Last season it was in the centre if defence and on the wings, before that it would have been somewhere else and so on. That one player could have made a huge difference to us, but yet again we fall short. Time will tell, maybe the players we have will surprise us. Maybe for the umpteenth time we'll look back and think what could have been if we had just added that final piece of the jigsaw.

English spending (as ludicrous as it is) is up 25% across the board. It's more significant than ever. Even the Championship is far more flush than ever. There's also China emerging as a competitor in the bargain bin market, and they've got oodles of cash (Hulk, Pelle, amongst others).

A team from Austria bought a Scot for £15m.

This is all before even mentioning Spain, Italy, France, Germany, oil rich Russians, Turkey, etc etc.

It's a significant argument because it's far worse than ever.

Bar for Ambrose not leaving it was a good transfer window
