for me this transfer window has been the best since lennon's first. Just cause we never signed 5 players on the last day dosent make it a bad transfer window or make the board tight *.

I mean it's been a good window overall but not spending any of the additional money we had gained from the CL qualification is very disappointing.

I still think we needed another defensive midfielder and striker.

I'm usually one of the first to have a dig at the board for not being ambitious, however this time, I'm going to cut them some slack. I am a little disappointed that we didn't bring in a quality central midfielder as I feel that is the only area we need to strengthen in the starting X1 at the minute, but all in all it's been a good window.

The most important part in all of this is that the board didn't try and reach the Champions League spending as little as possible, and we got our reward in the end. We brought in a quality manager who then brought in some much needed quality to the side. For the first time in a long time, the board did show ambition to get us there, and it paid off.

If we are sitting here next summer having barely spent a penny then questions need to be asked (once again), but I'm prepared to give the board time to properly back Rodgers with money, as they did spend money in order to get us into the Group Stages, and appeared o have learned from previous mistakes.

I asked a friend who is a Sheffield Wednesday fan about their window. Apparently they paid £5 million for a young guy who had a couple of good seasons in the Championship. Then just have a look at the EPL transfer fees this window. It's absolutely mental!

England is a terrible market in terms of value for money... and yet, that is where we have been shopping this summer. I wonder why.

The following two conclusions seem obvious, though:

    1) Since we can't compete financially with Championship clubs, let alone the mighty Crystal Palaces, Bournemouths and Burnleys of this world (who just spent £30m, £15m and £13m respectively on a single signing!), I really don't envy Lawwell trying to get those deals over the line without paying over the odds and on the whole he's done a good job.

    2) Rodgers isn't stupid, he knows the English market is incredibly inflated and terrible value. In my opinion if we are shopping there, it can only mean that he is shopping in a market he knows personally because he doesn't trust our scouts.

    Food for thought.

For the record, we haven't got the Champions' League money yet.

Would like to see more of Ajer in midfield, seeing as we didn't sign another.

Brown/McGregor/Biton/Ajer/Henderson is a decent list for 2 positions (and you could also argue Rogic playing there)

It's really not very good list at all. Compared to the other midfield lists of the 31 competitors we have in Europe this season, it's dreadful. Of our 4 group teams, it is the weakest by a massive margin.

I think it has been a good window tbf and don't get the hysteria, we have added some much needed real quality players, a couple are a bit of an unknown quantity but I trust in BR.

Yes it would have been nice to bring in a CM but i think It will be a big season from Ajer, with out budget and wage restraints it's more difficult for us to easily snap up quality players than it is for a majority of teams in Europe.

We have also got a couple out of the door so all in all I'm pretty satisfied.

It would have still been the weakest by a margin even if we had brought in the likes of McCarthy last night.

It's still early days in Brendan's tenure, back in champions league proper for the first time in a while.

The key is to improve season on season.

That was the major failure when we reached the last 16.

There has never been a better opportunity to really invest in the squad and the "product" on offer. It took a humiliating defeat by Rangers for us to get what we have now and for the board to even consider re investing the money and not pocketing it will probably need a quality competitive Rangers side to do that. The board can only be scared into spending they think as long as the league is won that fans are content. I'm not content with our * showings in Europe the past 3 seasons. This window is 50/50 let's not drink the look add from the board just yet. Sinclair looks a quality addition, so does Toure but he is a very short term solution. Dembele is still incredibly raw, not saying he won't come good but as it is he's still very raw. Dorus De Vries seems like a panic buy when Gordon was becoming an issue and BR didn't want to wait for Vrom who would've been a deadline day possibility as Tottenham brought in another keeper on loan, DDV's debut was one you'd want to forget it could be a case of bringing in another keeper but not solving the problem. Gamboa is a gamble has only played a handful of games over two seasons, I don't know how anyone can say he brings quality when anyone is yet to see what he really brings.

The board also had a lot to do with the Deila buys, their cheap managerial option marketed as "progressive" brought in GMS, Armstrong and Ciftci two of which refused to move and the rest of the list Boyata etc no one wants to buy.

I don't think it's negativity I think when people spend their hard earned money year after year, with the price increasing the Team and the product gets poorer and poorer, if this were a car etc you'd be throwing a wobbler, this is the first time in years that we should have spent to replace the VVD's the Wayanamas the Forster's but did add quality but maybe a higher quality at RB or a GK, definitely needed a CM and possibly a striker. I think people have the right to be annoyed it's not negative, it's an opinion that what people are getting back from the club isn't acceptable.

There is plenty of talent outside the EPL two supposed targets, Pione Sisto and Thomas Delaney both went for under €5 million

if we signed Morrison and McCarthy it would still have been the worst in the group by a big margin in terms of the other 31 competitors would you say our midfield is dreadful compared to Legia,Ludogorets,Rostov,Dinamo Zagreb,Kobenhavn

you have to remember we put 5 past motherwel & hapoel and we put 4 past st johnstone and aberdeen people are over stating how bad our midfeild is due to the game away to hapoel

We could spend £30m on midfielders and it would be worst in the list! Need to be realistic with our financial capabilities. You can see the ridiculous values of bog standard player in England (Mason for £12m???) so giving a chance to youngsters like McGregor/Ajer is not a bad compromise for me.

Realistically 4 points would be a good achievement in that group.

We should just have signed the 5 players on deadline day.

We would probably be out of the CL but at least the slavering hoards would have been happy. :87:

The most disappointing thing is ronny got more to spend last summer without CL football than rodgers has this summer

Surely that just goes to show its who you spend money on and not how much?

    No he didn't.

Do you think the likes of Toure and Sinclair are up here playing for free?

Believe me, when you factor in the wages we are paying our new signings, Rodgers got much much more to spend than Ronny.

People only see transfer fees, completely ignoring that wages is where the real money goes when signing players.

Exactly did Cifcti not cost £1.5m whereas Dembele cost 500k and I think Griffiths cost about £1m!
