Had a look on a West Brom forum. It always amazes me how much English clubs look down their nose at us apparently we get in the champions league by default and in footballing terms it's a backwards move :56:

NEW Celtic signing Cristian Gamboa knows he has his work cut out for him to win a starting berth at the Scottish champions but the Costa Rican full-back says he is ready to earn his spot.
The defender joined the Bhoys today (Wednesday) as Brendan Rodgers’ fifth signing of the summer, moving on a three-year deal from English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, but faces stiff competition from Mikael Lustig and Saidy Janko to become first choice right-back at the Hoops.
The enthusiastic 26-year-old is optimistic about his chances, however, and vowed to do everything in his power to win his place in the Celtic starting XI after visiting Lennoxtown for the first time with his family today.
“Wherever you go you have to fight for a place and earn your chance so I’m ready to fight, ready to put the pressure on,” he said.
“Right now there are two right-backs but I came to play and earn some time to play but it’ll be the gaffer who will decide. We spoke a few days ago and he told me the way he wants to play. I also saw some games when he was coaching Liverpool so I know the way he plays and I’ll try to fit in and do my best.
“Things are going well now as we are qualified for the Champions League so I think I know the plans he wants and the way he wants to play so I’m ready for it.”
Gamboa joins the Bhoys following a two-year spell at West Brom and with a wealth of international experience under his belt, with spells in Norway and Denmark also on his CV.
The lightening-quick defender explained that he has maintained his fitness in England while also playing regularly for his national side and he believes it won’t take him long to be up to speed at the Celts.
“I always try to keep myself in shape and try to do extra jobs so if when you say I wasn’t playing at West Brom, I still played all the national team games and played 90 minutes so I am trying to work on my physical condition all the time,” he added.
“Right now I’m missing some match fitness but I’ll come here, do my best and if they give me the chance I will be ready. I have no injuries so there’s no problem if I get the chance.
“I’ve nothing to prove, maybe just to myself. I think I will get a fair chance now and I will fight for it. We have the Champions League as well so that’s another stage where you can prove yourself.”

We have a squad that nobody in Scotland can compete with, like on paper and on pitch we are just on another tier than the rest of the country. We will add someone else I believe, but jeez we seriously should no question have the league wrapped up by Easter.

    I * hate Scottish "journalists".

Cristian was more positive about Scottish football than the people paid to promote our game.

This * has got to stop.

Hate that they always ask if it was the manager or champions league that persuaded him to come here. As if being Celtic isn't enough fs. Bet he didn't need persuaded at all

Fantastic, the photos of him and his wee lad? I'm assuming, are brilliant, nice to see a smile on his face, as others have said he looks happy to be here, your not gonna earn mega bucks here but you're gonna earn medals, hopefully regular European football and earn a decent wage at the end of the week more than the majority of people will ever earn on a weekly basis. What more could you really ask for.

Welcome big man, looking forward to seeing you in action :celt_2:

I'm assuming probably deployed as a right wing back as part of a back 5 in Europe? Big tests coming up for the lad next month hopefully turns out to be a huge improvement on Janko

Seems an excellent singing for only a million.

Get Janko outta and have Christian and Lustig fight it out for the RB slot.

Idk why, this guy just seems like a perfect fit. Both as a player and as a person, he fits the bill. Didn't know a thing about this transfer till yesterday and yet for some reason I'm as excited as I've ever been for a player joining the club. Think he'll turn into a star for us.
