    Got a feeling he'll be no.1

Can't see Rodgers bringing someone he knows up here to sit on the bench at 35 when he's been playing week in week out and just won awards down there too

I think he'll be great. Brendan hasn't let us down with any signings yet. Going to be a great season

Van Der Sar played until he was 40, at the highest level. If De Vries keeps himself fit enough then who's to say he can't play until he's 40?

Gabor Kiraly was playing at the Euros at the age of 40 as well.

Hugely excited by this signing exactly what we need.

It's safe to say that this guy isn't Edwin Van Der Sar. He's spent the last five years of his career in the Championship, and his career is winding down.

He has to be a short-term solution of sorts, but I'm pretty disappointed in this signing to be honest. I'd have hoped that for a position as vital as goalkeeper we'd have pushed the boat out a bit further than £400,000 for a 35 year old Championship level player.

A decent 'keeper can make or break our Champions League campaign, and I'd been hoping that we'd have invested some cash or that Brendan would have used his contacts in the Premiership to get us someone on loan at least.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he comes in and does fantastic, but I'm not excited by this signing at all.

Were buying him for the purpose of possession. I'm not surprised with this as he will fit into Rodgers system. I hope he doesn't become a Gordon part 2 so inconsistent in Europe, doing daft blunders here and there.

So the same age as Gigi Buffon and Van Der Sar in his prime?

Who said he is Van Der Sar? I said that 'keepers can play at the highest level at the age of 40 if they are fit enough.

The fact that Rodgers rates him so highly is good enough for me.

Don't judged Forest just by their league position. They had a transfer embargo placed upon them since December 2014 because of their finances - went over "fit & proper" limits in season 2013/14. Unlike QPR who also had the embargo, the Owners decided not to pay the mega million fine, hence the transfer embargo. Every Forest supporter I know was just satisfied to stay in the Championship and when Manager was sacked in March, they all said "what do the Owners expect with no money to bring in players.". Says a lot about De Vries that he gets POTY and Players POTY. Don't think we'll be disappointed in him.

You realise you're talking about two of the best goalkeepers of their generation, right? De Vries is a Championship level goalkeeper, not a Champions League regular and international player.

Well, I'm choosing to temper the Rodgers love-in ever so slightly. In all honesty, if The Rangers had signed this guy I'd probably have chuckled at it, so the notion of us bringing him in to play at Champions League level gives me the fear.

Like I said, I hope to be proven wrong on that count, but having two 'keepers at that age doesn't sit right with me.

He'll do okay in the SPFL I reckon right enough, but then again you could say that about a lot of players.

Love-in? So us having faith in the manager who had De Vries as his number 1 as they got promoted (and he won the golden glove for 25 clean sheets) is just down to a love-in? Never mind the fact that it looks like De Vries has remained at that level, if not improved since.

I think De Vries' recent record is impressive. It makes me quite happy with his signing and I'm not going to become ageist about it either.

De Vries was part of the Swansea side that won promotion six seasons ago, and he won that golden gloves award seven seasons ago. You know how long ago that was? We were enjoying Lennon's first season with us, had just signed Hooper, Stokes, Kayal and Mulgrew.

When he won the golden gloves award we were being managed by Tony Mowbray.

And he hasn't remained at that level or improved. He won promotion with Swansea and went on to become a back-up for Wayne Hennessy with Wolves, before playing back-up to Carl Ikeme in the Championship the following season.

He was then released after Wolves were relegated again to League one this time.

He then moved to Forest in the Championship and played back-up again in his first season, this time to Karl Darlow. in 2015/16 he was finally given the starting position and played regularly as Forest finished 16th in the Championship.

You may think that he's improved since leaving Swansea. I don't.

The guy has been a first-choice regular for his club one season in the last five, but has spent the majority of his time on the bench at Championship level.

Scott Sinclair had done * all for about 4/5 years before we signed him and already he looks like he'll tear this league a new one. He made a bad career choice and wasted a few years. To me it looks like De Vries has done exactly the same.

He won the Forest POTY and the fans all love him, that says to me he's still playing at a high level. He's obviously a very good 'keeper at Championship level. Some of our most successful signings the last few years have been signed from that league.

You're seriously comparing a player who left Swansea for Manchester City for £8 million at the age of 23 to a guy who left Swansea for * all to play as back-up at Wolves at the age of 31?

De Vries didn't make a "bad career choice", he's been largely sitting on the bench for two Championship level teams because that's his * level.

He won player of the year for a side that finished 16th in the English Championship after spending the previous five years as a back-up keeper in the same league.

If that's what you consider to be a "high level" then fair enough I guess. I don't buy it though.

There's a reason why he's been kicking about at that level for the past five years.

Daibhi.. I know this guy isn't as good as Buffon and VdS. The point is that goalkeepers can play at a high level, and some even reach their peak, in their mid to late thirties.

I really don't know what you were expecting.

Rodgers has signed someone he knows and trusts, someone who by all accounts had a fantastic season at a level we've signed players from in the last few years and had great success.

As I said elsewhere, I was kind of hoping that Rodgers would be able to use his contacts in England to find us someone similar to Forster? A young guy on his way up at a Premiership side, who we could take on loan with a view to buying for a few million down the line?

What I wasn't expecting was Doris * De Vries! :smiley-laughing002:

Have you seen much of De Vries Daibhi or mainly just worried by the fact he's played at Championship level as a back up for a few seasons?
