I think the back 3 is a safer option. It becomes a back 5 if you play it right. I would go with Keano88s team.

The way I see it, you either put an extra man in defence (3-5-2 Defensive) or an extra man in midfield (4-5-1/ 4-2-3-1).

We can't protect our back four, even with the extra man in midfield. With a weakened defence, as soon as they're exposed we're *. The better option is to try and strengthen that defence with an extra man.

Play O'Connell or any other untested youngster if needs be. Putting Ambrose in is agreeing to sell 1 goal min before the game has kicked off. That's the reality.

Put a cardboard cut out of Erik on the pitch instead of Ambrose.

    Gee big Charlie a text.

Folk aren't forgetting that, he was good that night when he come on, but he has made far too many mistakes in big games to be trusted on Wednesday. Deila didn't learn from his mistakes by continually selecting Ambrose in big games, and it backfired time and time again. Hopefully Rodgers learned after the away game against Red Imps that Ambrose cannot be relied upon. I'm not sure how many costly errors he has to make before all our fans see this.

It's a risk playing either one of Ambrose or O'Connell. If all our CB's are fit neither gets a look in but also O'Connell is 5th choice.

Well I was quite confident yesterday. Erik being out is a big blow, but getting all angry over it is pointless. What will be, will be.

I still fancy us to get a result over there if we are organised and set up properly. My optimism knows no bounds.

I'd go with a back 4 of Janko, Lustig, Oconnel, Tieney but I think Brendan will play a back 3.... just have to wait and see.

0-1 to the hoops. A wee last minute goal to lift the mood.

Knowing Ambrose, he will play and he will play a man of the match performance....and then move to Greece...leaving us all scratching our heads

O'Connell never put a foot wrong on Saturday. He absolutely should be played ahead of Ambrose.

I didn't say he did, I'm just saying its a risk playing either. With all fit CB's neither would be near the team. O'Connell turns like a double decker and has no pace. Though I'd play you ahead of Ambrose so I'd play O'Connell tomorrow, Ambrose shouldn't play for us again.

Our only hope is that Astana have been vastly overrated. If not we're looking at another Artmedia or Legia Warsaw. To go into a game of this magnitude scratching around trying to cobble a defence together is scandalous. It's not like we didn't know it was coming and we also knew Boyata and Simunovic would never be ready. Why could Toure not have been brought in earlier? The way this club does things is abysmal at times. All we need now is Forrest in the starting XI just to rub salt in the wounds.

Lustig is solid, keep him cb. Less running for his weak hamstrings.

It's a risk but there's no other alternative. O'Connell should definitely get the nod. McManus and Caldwell had a similar style and done well in Europe for us.
