At this rate we will be lucky to have a defender for the subs bench.

I would go with this myself, as it is the best in the circumstances.
    A flat back four of Janko - Lustig - O'Connell - Tierney.

Not necessarily.I wouldn't start Ambrose. No way.

Our centre halves should be Lustig and O'Connell without a doubt.

That's a point. Lustig hardly ever lasts 90 minutes in Europe. Even if we start O' Connell, Efe's almost certainly going to play at some point.

Well it'd be different if Lustig plays centre half

Maybe we should play Janko and Izzy wing backs for extra cover.

Worst possible player that could have been injured. Not been too impressed whenever I've seen O'Connell (never saw Saturday's game, but by all accounts impressed), Efe simply put, doesn't deserve another chance, as nice a guy as he might be, he's cost us too many times and is not worth the risk.

    Janko Lustig O'Connell Tierney

That backline doesn't fill me with any confidence.

Having Jozo, Erik, Boyata, Toure, Ajer all unavailable for this is horrible but we are partly to blame for it.

Need to ensure we are still in the tie come the second leg.

Didn't see the Leicester game. Vs Lincoln aye he was playing CB, although he was given free run to attack. Still it does not fill me with confidence having a untested partnership, in one of our biggest games of the season

The Cardigan brought the 5-4-1 to these shores and Levein invented the 4-6-0, my humble suggestion is to combine the two and play a 5-5-0, moving Tierney forward into RM with Armstrong and Johansen in the centre for those runs and Broony sitting. Tierney would slot into slab when Izzy goes forward and Broony would fill in at RB for Janko. Lot of pace in that back line, so we'd hold a high line, 2 banks of 5, breaking at speed down the flanks, with the opposing winger and one of Johansen and Ambrose making late runs into the box.

    Gordon

    Janko Efe O'Connell Lustig Izzy

    Roberts Broony Armstrong Johansen Tierney

Edit: obviously this is s joke but tge more I think about it, the more I'm captivated by its * up beauty. :smiley-laughing002:

Ambrose is the best option, just have to ride our luck with him.

Our defense will not be under constant pressure anyway. Astana usually set up to defend. We will struggle to break them down, but they in turn don't score many. A nil nil is a great possibility

I know I haven't watched them play before but I expect a lot of long balls which Ambrose has shown against the imps he can't deal with.
