UB40 were still holding on to a lead at just about the halfway stage, but with penalties to be applied to both still, who knows how it would effect the end result...

    Congratulations to The Jam!!!

A clean sweep of the final 4 votes secure an unassailable position, even taking into account the -6 score (2x 3)

The Jam are the first act through to the Final!

Which means it is commiserations to QUEEN (Moustache), who joins the Jury.

A quick question for Moustache though, why not use any of the songs from A Kind of Magic/Highlander in this competition? Anyhow, on we go.

With just 3 votes to go here, the Smiths were in need of a late surge if they were to get over the line. Did they get it?

Congratulations to The Pogues, who are headed to the Final, along with The Jam and one more!

Unfortunately, for the Smiths (Duke), it's the end of the line. The finalists may consider themselves fortunate, as the Smiths have an absolute battery of great songs still up their sleeve, but to be fair, to go out to the Pogues is nothing to be ashamed of either, as they have kept delivering the goods all the way through!

REM had finally taken the lead, but could they hold it? And what of the penalties? Would they affect the final outcome?

    Congrats REM!

Which means that, even when taking into account for the penalties for both (which as UB40's penalty was greater than REMs, means that it didn't matter here either), REM still comfortably accounted for UB40, and progress to the Final, where they will square off with The Jam and The Pogues, to see who will be crowned the champion of BotB VIII.

Sorry, UB40 (Keano), you have had a pretty good run, knocked out some big names along the way, and definitely enjoyed a slice or 2 of luck along the way (squeezing through on the very last vote after Madonna taking that +10 risk for one), and even in this penultimate round, still have the closest scores based soley on the songs provided, before penalties are taken into account. but all good things had to come to an end.

    Progressive Scores

    UB40
    5 4 4 0 1 2 2 2 11 2 0 5 (29)
    REM
    0 1 1 5 4 3 3 3 44 3 5 0 (36)

REM had a x2 (-6) penalty, and UB40 had a x4 (-12) penalty, meaning the final score stands at...

    Congrats REM!!!

Congrats to the Jam, the Pogues and REM!

The 3 of you have achieved what 16 others (and myself, kinda, lol) attempted to do. But now your fate is entirely in their hands once you submit your 3 final songs.

Here is how it is going to work.

You need to submit at the very least 1 80's song.
You may submit songs from outside of the 80's at your risk.
    Penalties are in play.

Each of your 3 songs will be going head to head with the others.

So when submitting your songs, please specify Song A, B & C.

Your compulsary 80's track must be Song A.

The Jury will have 5 points to allocate for each of the 3 songs in head to head competition.

    So they can score these 5-0-0, 4-1-0, 3-2-0, 3-1-1 or 2-2-1.

The winner wil be determined by the highest aggregate score from all 3 songs.

Congrats again for reaching this point, and best of luck to each of you for the Final! :50:

I told Taz way back in round 1 before I was even eliminated that I knew the Pogues would go all the way. Whoever picked them is a genius.

Congrats to the Jam, the Pogues & REM, and commiserations to my fellow losers Keano & Raoul. I was expecting to lose this one in all honesty, getting drawn against either the Jam or the Pogues was pretty much a death sentence :smiley-laughing002:

As someone who wasn't even alive in the 80's, I did alright all things considered. All in all, in the four competitions I've been involved in (or five if you count the abandoned one) I've managed to reach two semi-finals which isn't too bad.

I was originally thinking about using Who Want's to Live Forever or Princes of the Universe in the 4th Round, but I decided to go with I Want it All in the end.

For what it's worth, I was going to go to use a song from another movie they were involved with. The Flash Gordon theme was one of the songs I was saving for the final, alongside I Want to Break Free & Another One Bites the Dust (although being drawn against the Jam made me change that last one obviously).

Anyway, thanks for running the competition Taz, it was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the next one :50:
