Which means that it is the end of the adventure for Warren Zevon (Heb Celt :54:), who has definitely added something to this tournament, and will take his place now on the Jury.

This was a very tough Group, and the fact is a number of people commented as such to me about this being definitely the toughest Group of the Round. So someone was going to draw the unlucky straw. Or maybe alternative song selection may have made all the difference? Who knows?

Anyhow, it comes down to this. One spot remaining in the Final 12. One more to join the Jury.

Sadly that means that it is the end of the line for Madness (Drakhan :54:), who also now joins the Jury. What it also means is that anyone travelling to Australia and may find yourself in Melbourne and meet my brother, don't mention you voted Madness out because he was obsessed with them (and ska in general to be fair, but especially Madness) back in the day. :smiley-laughing002:

The beauty of this competition is in the hosts, they skilfully steer you away from your own perceived comfort zone. I so wanted to educate you guys on the other stuff Rod does away from the chart stuff ... ahh well best of luck lads .

    Round 4

    Here Comes the Twist

OK, so those of you who have done BotB before will know that usually toward the end of this competition the structure of the tournament changes as does the voting structure.

And you are probably aware that usually there are more themes in play to characterize each round. Well, I've been pretty easy on that front also.

    nd for a reason.

There is a change in store this season. :bbpd:

[IMG] First off there are going to be 3 Finalists! [IMG]

To get to that point we are going to have:

    • F12: 3 Groups of 4
    • F9: 3 Groups OF 3
    • F6: 3 Groups of 2
The make up of which will change with each Round, as always courtesy of Random.org.

    Song Selections

Also, at the start of the competition I did say that people would need to have at least 1 80's songs left for the Final, should you get there.

    And that is still true.

So from this point on people that wish to can use songs outwith of the 80's.

And from this point on there is no actual theme as such; whatever you think will get you through is up to you.

However, this comes at a cost. [IMG]

The further removed from the 80's your respective song selections is, the more of a handicap penalty there is.

    What does this mean?

Well, this comp is about the 80's, so any song that was released between 1980-89 (inclusive) does not incur any penalty.

However, for every year removed from the 80's will have a 1 point penalty/handicap.

So if you elect to use a song from 1979 or 1990 there is a +1 penalty. If you want to use a song from 1978 or 1991 there is a +2 point penalty, and so on.

If you wanted to use a song from 1971 that means there is a +9 point penalty. From 2000, an +11 penalty. From 2016, a +27 penalty.

So, it comes down to this: is the risk worth the reward?

If anyone wants to take a gamble on a particular song they are welcome to, but be aware that if there is a penalty these will be notified when the songs are posted.

It may not make any difference. It could make all the difference in the world.

    Voting Structure

The voting structure we have been using thus far (ranking in preference) will continue through F12 & F9, before reverting to the points allocation for the penultimate round and Final, and ONLY those on the Jury will be eligible to vote for these last 2 Rounds. So if you are still in the running at that point, beyond song selection, it is entirely out of your hands (unless you ultimately join the jury also for the Final)

    And.... Go!

Any track from the B side of Footloose and Fancy Free would have cruised it!

Tremendous half an album. Granted, it was in the 70s.:smiley-laughing002:

Id have used the standards just to get through, and then hit them with the 70s stuff!
