That Depeche Mode when we score!!
For me THE performance so far of this Olympics is Wayde Van Nieberk's 400m final World Redord Gold Glory!
Laura Muir is looking good, very good, she will get a Medal, and it really could be any one of the 3!
    And come on David Rudisha!!

    PS Well done Andy Murray!

I went down to Largs one day, by the C-L-Y-D-E,
Sure it was my intention to learn to water ski,
I was up behind a speedboat but what was that I see,
But Fawlty in a rowing boat and he was passing me

Well, the US medal conveyer belt is built around the college system so if you go to one it's not exactly a shock that some alumni are medalists... Unless it's an abnormally small uni with no sports program to speak of.

And singles achievements will always carry more weight, that doesn't discount other achievements but it's a simple fact. Tennis players aspire to be individual winners, the ones who can't cut it settle for the doubles circuit. Australian swimmer Cate Campbell will leave the Olympics with relay gold and silver but called herself a great choker for failing to win in the two individual events she was heavily favoured to. Her Olympics will go down as a disappointment. An individual medal will always mean more because it's down to individual ability and nothing more.

All of the 'if Michael Phelps were a country' medal table talk ignores the numerous relay team mates that contributed to several of his medals, the clickbait headlines should really read 'if a section of the USA swim team were a country'.

Incredible stuff. Some bird on a horse just won another. It's all happening.

Been exciting watching it all unfold. Bit * to miss some of it live though with the time difference.

What percentage of American colleges have medal winning athletes in Rio?

I think your logic is brutally flawed, mainly due to your compete disregard of how difficult it is to win an Olympic medal. They don't grow on trees.

I've been watching the highlights in the morning. Don't know who's idea it was to have the 100m final at 11pm Rio time. Daft for them and for us.

Were they not seriously into doping or am I thinking of another country? :smiley-laughing002:

Aye. Well before 1988 too. They came second in 1976 aswell.

Still mad thinking that the Olympics have been dominated by USA, China, Russia for so long.

1982 Romania came second but only because the Soviet Union boycotted it.

Womens shot put looks quite easy i'd say. Big fat munters throwing a wee ball, theres probably a lot of women out there who if they knew about the sport could give that a go.

Olympic boxing had turned into a farce. Judges have free reign to give rounds to whoever they see fit and that is being abused imo. I'd like to see them go back to the way it was scored in previous Olympics. Katie was robbed today. Quite clearly won rounds 1 and 3 and I scored 2 and 4 for her as well.

    Firstly, you're no a women.

Secondly, many Olympic medal winning female shot putters do you have in your phone book?

Lastly, everything is relative. The reality is any female shot putter would throw a shot miles further than you or I could even dream of.

I read an article that said 80 percent of the entire team had come through the college sports system.

I'm not disregarding how difficult it is to win a medal, I'm simply stating that it's tougher to win an individual medal than a team one.
