AS the home team in Saturday’s Glasgow derby, Brendan Rodgers knows there is an expectancy for Celtic to emerge victorious, but the Hoops boss says that’s nothing new.
Celtic are the five-in-a-row Scottish champions and sit top of the league in the SPFL Premiership with a one-point advantage and a game-in-hand, but the Irishman, who was named Manager of the Month for August, said no matter the circumstances, the expectancy to win is always there.
“When you’re Celtic and you play at home, that is what is expected of you,” he said. “We don’t run away from that and we’re not running away to say we don’t want to be favourites for the game because whether we are playing Rangers, Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Hearts, whoever we play at home, our objective going into the game is to win.
“This is a huge game, but it’s another one we want to win well and win playing how we work, so for us every game we play at Celtic Park we want to win.”
A bumper crowd is expected at Paradise for Saturday’s lunchtime clash as the Hoops take on their city rivals and the manager anticipates another raucous afternoon at the home of the champions.
His early experiences of Celtic Park on European nights have been like nothing he has sampled at any other ground and he said he expects the home fans to take their support of the team to new heights at the weekend.
“I’m really looking forward to this here because I’ve heard noise at Celtic Park that I haven’t heard before as a manager and coach, wherever I’ve been, home or away,” he said.
“That’s why so many players from around the world speak so fondly and highly of it – the atmosphere at Celtic Park. It really is a unique atmosphere, so with over 60,000 in it and over 55,000 cheering for Celtic it’s going to be an incredible occasion and a great occasion for football and Scottish football.
“I’m really looking forward to that and it was one of the first games I looked for when the fixtures came out and very quickly it’s upon us now, so I can’t wait.”

They way I always look at it, when you looked at Ronny it was like looking at a student of the game, still learning. But when you look at Brendan there's this aura about him like he has accomplished something in the game, you cant not show him respect.

Like when you look at the breadman all you get from him is 'baldy cockney toss pot'
