Aye, totally agree. Particularly given our CL group. We'll badly need someone in the middle to protect the defence.

It's not the first time he has talked of wanting a creative player in there.

Brendans idea of a creative player probably includes being able to do the grunt work as well though... I hope. :smiley-laughing002:

He wants someone who can help us keep the ball better first and foremost and if you look at Tuesdays performance you can see why he'd want another one like that in. Brown will probably be our most defensive minded midfielder in Brendans midfield, he rarely ever plays with a pure DM. Britton, Allen, Gerrard were his deepest midfielders at Swansea and Liverpool, none of whom are renowned for their defensive attributes. Brendan doesn't really do "Wanyama types" as the deepest midfielder, more likely Bitton will remain first choice when we play 4-3-3 in that role.

    It'll probably end up.

    Bitton
    Brown New CM

as our first choice trio in a 4-3-3, for other formations it'll be different. Probably Brown and the new CM as a two if Rogic plays as the 10.

    Pretty amazed myself.

Hardly world class but he is a hardy * and can play right across the back 4.

He'd be brilliant for us in a 3 at the back system, too.

I do like bitton but for that group we've been given we have to have buy a brick wall to sit infront of Kolo and erik.
I think its the most important kind of player to have when your up against quality that you just can't match like for like

What a fantastic fit Brendan is for our club, bringing a level of passion and professionalism that hasn't been seen since the MON era (even though I have the greatest respect and affection for Neil Lennon). We're really on an upward trajectory. It's always great to be a Tim, but you get the feeling that this is going to be a stellar season for our club, with hopefully better to come next year. HH

Really hope he sticks around to take us to ten in a row, I'd imagine that was in his head when he decided to come here.

Five years is a fair whack though, especially for a top class manager like him who will no doubt have many offers from elsewhere during his time here.

Especially if we have the brilliant season we're all expecting. There'll be plenty of inferior (because every club's inferior), cash-strapped clubs showing interest in our manager.

"I always want us to improve. If I don't make another signing, the club had done brilliant for us."

I don't know if that's misquoted for meaning IF we sign someone else, but if thats what he said I'm slightly concerned. We need at least 2 new players, surely he knows that.

"How ever I do want to bring in some to help"

Think he is just praising the board so far, but clearly stating he does want more and that he knows the areas he needs to improve.
Would love two more. A experienced striker and a solid midfielder

AS domestic football takes a brief break while the first round of international fixtures of the new season take place over the next couple of weeks, Brendan Rodgers can reflect on an extremely positive start to life at Celtic.
The Hoops boss saw his side beat Aberdeen 4-1 today (Saturday) for their third consecutive league win, a result which puts Celtic top of the Premiership table. In addition, the team can look forward to a League Cup quarter-final tie next month.
And most significantly, the Irishman has led his charges into the group stages of the UEFA Champions League where Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach await.
As far as a first report card goes, it’s an A+ for the Celtic manager.
Speaking after the victory over Aberdeen, which came courtesy of goals from Leigh Griffiths, James Forrest, Scott Sinclair and Tom Rogic, the Hoops boss was understandably delighted with how things have gone since he took over the Paradise hot-seat.
“It’s been a brilliant start for us,” he said. “From when I first came in, to be sitting here in this position – to have played three really tough league games, two away from home in notoriously hard places and to get the points, and then after all the travel and all the emotion of this week, to come back in and play Aberdeen, who’ve got a good squad of players, an excellent coach and a week to prepare, to be as convincing as we were for the majority of the game makes us really pleased.
“So we sit here in the quarter-final of the League Cup, three wins out of three in the league and qualified for the group stages of the Champions league, so we have to be happy.”
While the goalscoring exploits of his side won the three points against a defensively resolute Dons side, some of the post-match questioning reflected on the manager’s decision to give new signing Dorus De Vries his first start for the club, with Craig Gordon dropping to the bench.
“I just do what I do in every game,” the manager explained. “I pick what I think is the best team and the goalkeeper’s no different to the outfield players.
“I always say that my teams have to play with control from behind in order for us to play how I want us to play and to have that speed and domination in the game, and I thought Dorus came in and did very well.
“He had one loose pass, but apart from that he’s able to orchestrate the game from behind – there was a little bit of tiredness today from one or two of the players that didn’t get us into position quick enough but overall I thought he and the team were outstanding.
“And, again, when you think of all the exertions that the players have put in, to have scored another two late goals when Aberdeen were trying to push, shows the mental and physical fitness of the players, and I take my hat off to them. I thought they were brilliant.”
Celtic’s third goal came from a penalty, won and then converted by Scott Sinclair for his third goal for the Hoops, with the Englishman taking on the spot-kick duties instead of Moussa Dembele, who had come in the second-half as a substitute for Leigh Griffiths.
“We are very lucky that we have really good penalty takers,” the Hoops boss said. “We’ve got Scott, Leigh and Moussa – Moussa probably wanted to take it, but Scotty took it and we scored, so that’s all that matters.
“Scotty was my penalty taker at Swansea so he knows the score and I trust that he will score a goal but I also trust Moussa – the most important thing is, it went in the back of the net.
“Moussa’s a great kid and he’s hungry to do well. He hasn’t played maybe as much as he’d want to but he’s shown a wonderful attitude and he knows that it’s a long season and his opportunities will come, and you see the impact he made when he came on, he freshened it up along with young Patrick, and he did very, very well.”
