To be fair, we heard next to nothing about Dembele until the day he was getting his medical. I'm sure there are things going on.

I am slightly worried. I'd hoped we'd have a couple of high-value targets ready to be signed early on just so we're solid for the qualifiers. Now I feel we're tasking Rodgers with getting us through with the current crop, which is worrying.

For the first time in a long time I'm confident that the manager of Celtic knows what he's doing. I don't want new signings just for the sake of it. We will add to the squad and some will leave, it's not all gonna happen within the first two weeks back so there's nothing to worry about. I think we have enough to get through the first two qualifying rounds with Brendan at the helm and a fresh take on everything.

Yeah he knows what he's doing, don't panic until the window slams shut. I fully expect to have another 3 or 4 out the door and another 3 in by then.

No panicking here. That really shouldn't be an issue with anyone after how we conducted serious business with Dembélé just the other day..

We are definitely doing thing's the RIGHT way..

    Patience folk's..

Even though they're friendlies, if we took the second half performance from Cleje and the first have one from Graz, that's enough encouragement from me that BR is on the case. Some great football played in those spells.

He's big on teamwork and the team ethic. I think his approach is to try and get the guys to bond, to really become a unit, both mentally and tactically. You see the benefits of if it - especially mentality, look at the Irishes, Iceland, Wales, even the so-called weak Italian team - all had great mentality, work ethic, really play for each other.

BR's taken the squad away to really encourage them to build the off-field relationships which build better on-field performances. He's perhaps been quite clever/fortunate that certain 'egos' who may detract from his 'my way or the high way' approach (Mulgrew, Commons) have stayed at home, so he can really mould this squad into a team. I think we'll get more out of this, than we would by adding in more players - even better players, as the team, the unit will be set. An identity will form and an attitude borne. Then hopefully, if he adds a couple more players later on in the window (hopefully a CB and Winger) they will be coming into a unit that's already formed, not in the process of forming as this just delays the whole process.

I think we'll get more out of giving the current squad the chance to show what they can do first. Dembele was an easy one as we only had 2 recognised strikers - with Ciftci not even being a certainty to stay - but the other positions, other than CB, are kind of ok.

I'd be happy to take this current squad into the first qualifiers, hopefully bringing in a CB shortly before or after. Then maybe towards the end of the window we'll see a 'fair' player come in. Other than that, i'm confident BR can build a good solid side from the squad we have - one based on unity, tactical certainty, and an aggressive will to win.

This stuff has restored my faith in football. The big money and the flash attitudes of some in the game has me a little disillusioned at times. I'd love it if we showed the team spirit that we saw with the Italians and Welsh.

Not worried in the slightest, we have more than enough to navigate this first qualifier anyway, Lustig has just arrived back today so he can fill CB if we don't sign anyone before then. Then we can address that area afterwards.

We have an absolute mountain of players to sieve through for Brendan to decide who he wants and does not. I'd be hoping for at least a further 8 players to be leaving either on loan or permanently. There is still some deadwood hanging around.

As people have said, when a guy like Brendan is at the helm it gives you the confidence he knows exactly what he's doing and will make the right decisions as time goes on.

brendan rodgers is a bit like martin o neil when it comes to transfers.he doesnt rush.

at his first season at liverpool he only signed a few.then in his second season again he didnt sign many.even in janaury when the team was threadbare and they had a great chance to win the league he didnt spend.he did have two busy summers after although many left, and its debatable how much of a say he had, with that transfer commite they talk about at liverpool.

We'll start to see better performances when he gets what he thinks is the best 11 together, right now he's looking at a random 11 each half to evaluate the players.

Aye if anything, too many transfers were his downfall at Liverpool, they upset the harmony - not to mention the small matter of losing the best striker on the planet.

I agree, he has something of the MON's about him - seems to have the same mantra of building a small, really close-knit squad. Its the whole Moneyball thing - we can't compete financially, so we have to do things differently. The team as a whole being greater than the sum of our parts.

this is a good post.hate when people think we need to spend.maribor, malmo, legia all spent a lot less than us.and all did there selfs proud in europe after they put us out.people forget we had a backline of naylor, caldwell, mcmanus whch cost next to fuckall and got us past the groups twice.we could spend thirty million on a striker if we had it and he could still turn out *.its good having money but no good if you cant spend it wisely.

Was thinking something much the same. Perhaps we'll see him as more of a squad player, with his biggest impact being off-field. For some games his aggression and tenacity is really valuable, but in other games his lack of passing ability and poor touch does see us turn the ball over too often. Thought we really dropped off when he came on against Sturm Graz - bit harsh i know, but still.

Don't think that just cos Dembele was very cheap, He's not a very big signing. He's been given the number 10 shirt for a reason, expect him to play a lot. If he wasn't out of contract and we'd paid 3-5 mill, no one would say we over paid. We just managed to score a cracking deal.
