    Interview on the Celtic Website
    [IMG]
BRENDAN Rodgers has great expectations for Celtic that will certainly delight supporters, not least because these are the expectations he has as a supporter himself.
The new Celtic manager wants the club to continue its domination of Scottish football and re-establish its European reputation, qualifying once again for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League and then aiming to progress beyond that stage.
As Celtic Park filled up with fans ready to welcome the new manager to Paradise, he was talking to the press for the first time. And it’s clear he can’t wait to get started in his new role.
“Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in the world and for me to come out of the Premier League to here is certainly not a step down,” the Hoops boss said. “This is one of the great clubs in the world, it’s an institution in its own right so for me to come here is a huge honour and a privilege to come and manage Celtic.
“First of all, I want to commend and congratulate Ronny and John Collins to have won two titles and continue that momentum of winning the league is very important.
“For me, the objective is pretty clear – to continue the domination of Scottish football and also to make an impact in European football.
“The traditions of Celtic being the first British team to win the European Cup is very important and there have been many great European nights here at Celtic Park, so that opportunity to revive those fortunes, to get into the Champions League and to continue with Scottish football domination - it’s pretty clear what the objectives are.”
A lifelong Celtic supporter, many of Brendan Rodgers’ proud relatives joined him in the Number 7 Restaurant at Celtic Park for his inaugural press conference as manager. And he is determined to do everything he can to bring success to his football club.
“I understand the values of this club and the expectations and the pressures, because here it’s not just about winning,” he said. “Celtic is brought up to win in a way of football – a style and an identity, and that’s something we can hopefully create here and make the supporters proud of the team.
“In the games that I’ve seen, and I’ve looked at some of the recent games, we’ve got some boys with great attitude, great qualities, and they look like they want to work, so when they come back in June, we’ll be ready to go from that first day, and I really can’t wait to get working with the players again.”

As incredible as all of this has been since Friday, it's going to take a while to get used to seeing a manager of the stature of Brendan Rodgers standing on the touchline at places like Rugby Park next season :smiley-laughing002:

It really brings home how special this club and the supporters are.

He knows he's taken a step down in terms of a competitive league and money, we all do, but he has taken a huge step up in terms of the support that he will receive and the overall size and history of Celtic. You can tell he is genuinely overjoyed at being here and that turnout he got today was indescribable, and surely emotional for him.

Amazing atmosphere and welcome for the man himself.
