And we then became the whipping boys in the CL. Skudded 3-0 at home against Milan. Humped 6-1 by Barca.

For the people who don't want Lennon back - is it a case of you not being happy with his original tenure, or that you don't believe he could replicate that?

Just bizarre to me seeing some of the folk who were strong admirers of Deila's philosophy slating Lennon when, instead of talking about it all the time, he actually implemented much of it very well.

    Nothing to do with either.

I live lennon and think he done a wonderful job during his time but he had is limitations. He hasnt grown as a manager since and the same reasons he left in the first place will still hold true today.

Say he does come back, wins a double next year and we get to the champions league. All is good and then the board tell him we are selling rogic and bitton and that he isn't getting the money to invest again.

Back to where we was two years ago.

Its about looking forward and improving us overall.

Mentally insane because I think Neil Lennon is a good option as a Celtic manager?

Right, lets break this down then.

Number 1, he won't we back here if the terms don't suit him. We know this because of several things we know about Lenny after his 14/15 year association with us. He's a stubborn *, he doesn't back down from a fight and even when he was at the very, very start of his managerial career, when he'd managed to get himself into a position to be considered as Celtic manager it took a very long time because he was standing his ground and denying the board the ability to force a mentor on him.

When the board tried to force terms he didn't like on him, he left.

We have no evidence that he would act any different this time round.

Bearing that in mind, what we actually need is a manager who can play good football but can also be pragmatic when need be. We need a man with a winning mentality, who is used to winning in his career and has lead a club to silverware, we need a guy who can navigate us through the Champions League qualifiers, a proven track record at that would be ideal.

We need a guy who can be an underdog in Europe and reign supreme domestically and do both well. We need somebody with a proven track record of buying youngsters, developing them and then selling them on for a massive transfer fee.

If me thinking Neil Lennon fits that profile is mentally ill, then I'd rather sit on this side of the fence.

Go through what? What are you even talking about there? :97:

I agree that Deila would've been his assitant. I agree he would've been aware of the circumstances surrounding player sales, however Forster was the only big player sale in the summer Lennon left.

The no money thing is just plain fantasy. We spent more in Deila's first 18 months in charge than we did during the same period under Lennon.

He is certainly one of the main contenders,

And I know Im gonna get pelters for this, but people seem to have a bit of a selective memory when it comes to lennon, they only remember Barcelona, and the last 16 etc.

They seem to forget how much better our squad was, and indeed the all the fist shaking and greeting everyone did against some of his tactics ( his strict and ultimately preposterous love of zonal marking etc)

Lennon left because of downsizing, but that doesnt negate the fact that he was, for all intended purposes, a DD and Lawell yes man during his tenure.

I dont want to see that again. I would rather keane fist fight PL in the car park than go back to that *.

    Just sayin.

There's a lot of revisionism with Lenny. Yes he beat Barca which was incredible and he took us to the Last 16 that season. Other than that, what else was so special about his reign here?

The football was good at times, * awful at times - hence why plenty of people here were 'happy' to see him leave. The last 16 season aside, his record in Europe wasn't impressive in the slightest. Pumped off Utrecht, beaten by Braga and Sion, pumped at home by Milan and so on.

As I said before, 79 points in the league one season with 7 defeats. Shocking.

His record at Hampden wasn't good at all. Beaten off Killie and Ross County.

People are going on about him as if he's a saviour. It's ridiculous.

For the people not wanting Lenny back, what do you think would constitute a very successful manager over the next four seasons, presuming the next manager lasts that long?

What would they have to do in Europe, and what would they have to win over those four years?

Sorry mate but if you think that, along with Moyes, Lennon is the best option then you're off your rocker.

Yup but he improved us very quickly after that.

The most important thing is we got there. If we fail to get there it's a very quick slope to whipping boys in the Europa, as we have seen so far.

We need a manager who can adapt quickly, Lenny is one of them. We'll always be losing players, Lenny got us in the CL when he lost the spine of his team he'd been building for 3 years. We need a guy who can do that.

What part do you think is wrong there? What part of that makes me 'off my rocker' and 'mentally insane'?

Well considering the fact that we have the best squad in Scotland already. I'd expect the manager to win the league title each season, obviously it has to be put in context though. If the huns spend plenty of money on players and we don't, then it's tough to say.

I'd also expect him to win at least one of the Scottish Cup/League Cup each season - or at the very least get to a final.

Then in Europe, either qualifying for the CL or putting in respectable performances in the EL.

He's given you informed opinions on why he would be, why don't you provide your informed opionion on why he wouldn't be?

Instead of "if you think that you're of your rocker". We can all make random sentences but can we all justify our viewpoints? :smiley-laughing002:

I have edited your earlier post to highlight my point. Would it sit well with you to say this if Jock wanted to come back. Do you believe Neil gave less to the cause of Celtic than Larsson?

If you do not believe he is good enough why not just say that. Did you need to attack his character because he moved to England?

For a start, Moyes is a far more ambitious appointment than Lennon. Rodgers the same.

Then you can even look at the likes of Murat Yakin and Bielsa (although he's less likely).

I thought he was the cheap option at the time and should've been sacked when knocked out of Europe and 12 points behind Rangers. He went on to do alright - in a league without Rangers and got into the CL (credit where it is due) but it wasn't all rosy during his reign.

I wanted an experienced manager when Lenny was appointed and when Delia was appointed, so I'm hoping for the same this time.

Paul Le Guen was an insanely ambitious appointment from Le Scum. Doesn't mean * all when it gets down to it.

What part of my post do you find disagreeable enough to label me 'off my rocker'?
