That Depeche Mode when we score!!
This programme looks very interesting asking many British Muslims many different important questions from how Women should be treated, should there be Sharia Law in Britain, attitudes to the Gay Community,to views on Violence and Terrorism.
A good number of British people many indeed liberal minded Muslims kind of think British Muslims are becoming a nation within a nation, remembering 190,000 British Muslim women cannot speak English.
Indeed many liberal minded Muslims are concerned about a collection of views by the less and far less liberal British Muslims.Anyway it will be very interesting on one what is revealed on this 65 minute documentary.

I have not watched it yet but I don't really like Trevor Phillips as he talks a lot of * and only gets away with as he is Black and if he was White would be in trouble. But I bet the daily mail readership probably has the same views on gay relations and capital punishment as the Muslims that were polled.

The question here implies that, whatever your Muslim neighbours may tell you, don’t believe them. Phillips, formerly head of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, said as much in a Sunday Times article last weekend: apparently the pollsters wanted to ensure the respondents did not “disguise the answer that you think will be all too disturbing for people from a different culture to hear”.

Phillips, who also wrote in yesterday’s Daily Mail, claims this poll, undertaken by ICM, supports his belief that there is “a chasm” opening between Muslims and people of other faiths, and therefore that Muslims are different and apart from the rest of society. He claims it reveals “the unacknowledged creation of a nation within the nation, with its own geography, its own values and its own very separate future”. In his view, this means “we have to adopt a far more muscular approach to integration than ever, replacing the failed policy of multiculturalism”.

    Good article from the Guardian

Pointless programme. They're hardly likely to allow Muslims with extremist views to sit there on national TV and say how much they hate western civilisation, Christianity etc. But these people are out there.

This was the cover story in the Sunday Times Magazine at the weekend. It came back with some interesting, if somewhat dangerous, results. Members of the Muslim community from across the UK where asked the following questions. Here is the result:

It is acceptable for a British Muslim to keep more than one wife?
31% agree, 14% strongly agree, 17% tend to agree.

Wives should always obey their husband?
agree 39%, strongly agree 15%, tend to agree 24%

Would you support or oppose there being areas of Britain in which Sharia la is introduced instead of British law?
23% support, strongly support 7%, 16% tend to support.

Homosexuality should be legal in the UK?
52% Disagree, 38% strongly disagree, 14% tend to agree.

Should a gay person be allowed to teach your children?
    Over 50% disagreed.

Tel me whether you sympathise or condemn people who take part in stoning those who commit adultery?
79% condemn, 66% condemn completely, 13% condemn to some extent.

To put some of these into perspective, we can compare these findings with recent polling statistics for the Scottish Election. As a percentage of their populations, more Muslims sympathise with stoning for adultery than Scots will vote Green in the election. As a percentage of the population, you would need to triple Scottish Labour's vote to equal the amount of Muslims that oppose gay teachers. Muslims who support Sharia law are more popular than Scottish Labour. Muslims who believe that homosexuality should be illegal is greater than the support for the SNP in Scotland.

(This is just according to these statistics, I am not saying this is fact or is a representation of all Muslims.)

Phillips does not mix his words.
By and large I can agree with this statement and have seen it many times first hand.

    Quite a dangerous statement.

    Integration can be promoted by..

Difficult one for me. I'm extremely averse to taking direct action on minority community practices. It should be clarified, a semantic distinction exists with Sharia Courts; some academics refer to them as Sharia Councils. Either way I am skeptical about the growth in an unregulated system of justice based on an interpretation of religious scripture.
