Being a cynic and having experienced many let downs by the board missing out on players, selling our best players and poor managerial appointments, the statement is simply them covering in case we do not get Rodgers.

If it is true Dermot would prefer Keane to BR then I think that damages the possibiliity of him coming, Lawwell will not be happy with the figures and Dermot would not overly press the matter. Lawwell will still have a big say in who we get, as Dermot knows that he will be the one working with him day to day not him.

Getting Rodgers would lift everyone at the club and the supporters, season tickets would fly out the door and new comers would increase. It would be a statement of intent to Scottish teams and the UK media. If it is Keane (who I think it will be), alot of supporters will not be happy given his dodgy record, it is not the appointment we need at this point and time, maybe 2 seasons ago but not now when we have to protect the 10.

Dinna fret laddie. As you have rightly said, the principle is correct but the figures are in question. I think the DR have taken his anticipated annual income of £5m (basic + bonus) and used that figure. I also don't think some folks realise that in much of today's football market, when a Manager gets sacked, his former Club pay him until either his old contract runs out or he gets a new appointment.

It'll be so disappointing if we are expecting Rodgers and Coyle or McKay get wheeled out as the new manager.....

Is he that good tactically tho?

Left Liverpool in a pretty poor shape! Everyone talks about Gerrards slip but they threw away the league at Palace, was very naive that night!!

Don't get me wrong, it would be a somewhat of a coup if we could attract a manager of his standing in the game! But for me there are question marks around his tactical ability!

It's more his Swansea side that gets me excited. Everyone was talking about them that season, saying how amazing their football was.

His time at Liverpool was a real mixed bag and maybe he was naive, but just to get them in that title race was better than any of the previous few managers domestically. He was hamstrung in his final full season by that transfer committee.

I like him, his football excites me

I get what you say about Peter not being happy with the figures (salary) and it does give me concern, particularly as it was not 1 week ago that PL, again said that we could not compete with EPL money as it would potentially create debt without any guarantees. Then BR would want to bring in his own people - more money. Then I can't see BR only working with the players we have and not wanting to bring in his own players - more dosh, particularly as I could see him going for the likes of Joe Allen and Ricky Lambert and maybe even Sirtel, none of whom would agree to anything less than £30k pw. On paper it looks great, but when you start to add up the numbers....it's potentially mega debt with no guarantees.

    Absolutely nothing statement.
Making noise to make noise and cover their *.

If they have lined up a few interviews and Rodgers was one of the first, it would he madness and disrespectful to say they now have a preferred candidate when others are still due their interview. Simple common courtesy.

That Celtic statement is nothing. Just putting it out so that if we don't get Rodgers, it doesn't look like we missed our main target.

I reckon it's as 'likely' as it was last night.

If we don't get a big name manager I'd rather bring back Delia or Lennon lol

That was my immediate thought and still think it's likely the case. Still lingering doubts in my mind that the meeting with Rodgers wasn't all that positive and that's why they've come out with it.

Other than "it is reported that" or " according to a source", where did " BR is Celtic's No1 target" come from?

Having a look around this forum and others and a quick look on twitter, the true definition of silly season! No one knows what is happening in all honesty, and everyone getting more and more anxious.

Makes you wonder why the board have not sourced the guy weeks previous to now, Deila did not leave on short notice, it's a * joke

It was basically out of their hands after the defeat at home to Chelsea. Had they beaten Palace and won their last game of the season, it would have went down to goal difference I'm sure. They were a lot of goals behind though, and that was one of the reasons they threw it away at Palace. I remember when they scored the third that night, they ran to get the ball out the net. They should have shut up shop when it went 3-1 though, but the league was lost at home to Chelsea, when Gerrard failed to control the ball.
