It's not easy to get a manager fitting all that criteria. Basically anyone is a gamble. I think all we can do is hope whoever does get the job, proves all his doubters wrong and does a great job, whether that be Roy Keane, Davie Moyes, Paul Lambert or whoever. I'm just hoping if it is Keane, he's learned from his two previous attempts at management and also learned a bit from MON.

Hope you're right, because the more I think about this, I think it will be Keane. Moyes, Rodgers, Lambert, Clarke, DiMatteo etc would be looking for a leg up back to the EPL, whereas with Keane......who else would want him and it would be his last chance to prove all the doubters wrong.

I think there is a quite simple formula to funding a top level manager - his compensation package is directly linked to Champions League Qualification. If he gets the team into the Group Stages it is said to be worth £15M+ these days
So a £1M bonus just for getting us in is surely a decent return

£1M salary plus £1M Champions Lge Group Stage bonus + £500K League Winners bonus (getting us into next year qual) allows a budget of £2.5M for a top quality manager.
Throw in another couple of significant bonuses for the cups and even a last 16, last 8 type bonus and a successful manager could earn (and there is the CRiTICAL word - EARN) a substantial salary. And all directly funded by the success it brings.

The only detractor in getting that A-lister signed up, is how much investment he gets to enable that to happen - but even this could be progressive - 'x' amount to get through quals then 'y' to improve further for group stage proper (this is actually no different than that already employed - 'y' simply never happened last 2 years - or at least not to the degree that qualification would have allowed) leading to improved budgets of 'a' & 'b' for the following year.
But most would look at the resources we had last year and the teams we were drawn against and recognized we SHOULD have been able to get through that to the Groups. So even modest investment would fund phase one, just getting us qual'd - a realistic 'gamble' for a confident (& competent!) manager.

Get Alex Neil in straight away, a realistic target!

Truth is that some of the names being mentioned would indicate we are going to invest some cash. The records of these guys doesn't tell you how they would do at Celtic. I think every one of them will be in a position to annihilate Sevco, and will do so. There's a fair chance any of them will show a marked improvement in Europe also. Let's face it, Ronnie was a dreamer.

I think we are in for happy times, and an upping of the ante

Thing with Keane, you don't know who are gonna be getting from one day to next.

Could win the league in his first try, but then * off the entire squad the next, teams that are expected to win titles like we are can not afford such a person to be in charge.

Would rather * Alex Neil or Paul Lambert then Keane or atleast Gary Monk since I got £100k on him.

There are pro's and con's with being Celtic manager.

Some pro's are the fact we almost guaranteed a crack at CL every year, we have a massive following globally, we can give any potential manager the best chance (in Scotland) to win titles and cups and we have the biggest budget in Scotland.

Con's are that the League is not the most glamourous and it very repetative with playing each team 4 times per year (outwith cups). The budget compared to other teams they may get the opportunity to manage will be alot smaller and off course the mentallity of the zombie scum and the media may not be to their liking given they will almost certainly know what happened to NL

People like Moyes and Rodgers will have to weigh up those pro's and con's and decide whats best for their reputation and prestige cos for sure they wont be with us for the long term and would be using us as a foot up into the Epl again. Can they get back to the Epl quicker than if they went to a low lvl Epl team or even a championship side?

Something tells me that it wont be who we all want and will be someone either we dont want near the place or will be someone we hadnt even thought of (as Ronny was)

Really don't want Keane. He is * nuts, spent a fortune and doesn't have a good track record. Anybody else.
One of my favourite players growing up as well.

Seen Michael O'Neill on SSN there ruling out taking over Celtic, wants to continue on with the Norn Iron team.

Good. One down, more to go until Saint Brendan graces our wonderful club.

    Actually it says
"However, it's also suggested that Rodgers has two major doubts about taking the Celtic job, surrounding 'the standard of Scottish football and possible budget constraints'.

So you could read " We just made this up to make the story a little more interesting"

If he is having talks with the board then he is genuinely interested,he should already be aware of the standard of football and have an idea of the budget he can expect,if he is a decent manager this should be seen as a challenge.

Rodgers knows the standard of football, his family are Celtic fans, so he'll be well aware of what he can expect domestically. I'd imagine his only concern will be the transfer budget to enable him to at least have a serious shot at getting into CL. If that can be sorted, which apparently can be, then there's no reason why Rodgers won't take the job, unless of course he gets an offer he cant refuse elsewhere. I don't think he'd take a club which won't give him an opportunity of European football, so the options are few for him.
