Or some might base it on his 37% win rate in management which he gave up 5 years ago to be a pundit on ITV which sometimes he comes across mentally unstable :56: Personally im not sure why Keane even gets an interview based on his management history, still prefer him to Rogers:icon_mrgreen:

Unfortunately yes..In fairness with the death of the huns I think we were losing millions a year so maybe with sevco now taking their place we can splash a bit of cash again. I reckon Delia was there until we had a rival again and now that maybe we will in sevco the board know they need to get the finger out..like it or not those hun * will hit the ground running next season

Moyes had a 42% win rate at Everton ,Rodgers had 40% at Swansea both went up to about 50 %when they went to bigger clubs not a massive difference

It's been like this for years. Mowbray. Lennon. Deila.

None of which were managerial heavyweights

Would Strachan have even been considered a managerial heavyweight at the time?

Sometimes managers are just the right fit for a club at a particular time, due to varying circumstances. Ranieri at Leicester is an obvious example, his stock wasn't exactly high before going there.

I think Moyes is the best fit for us right now but I am not really against the idea of Keane. I think it's a bit of a gamble but it has the potential to work.

Unless you get Mourinho, Guardiola or Simeone then every managerial appointment is a gamble because outside of them there are so many factors you have to consider when judging a manager. Which leagues the managed in, budgets, how they left certain clubs, how versatile a coach they are, how they deal with huge pressures and have they over/under achieved at clubs they were at. Then you have to consider different managers deal with different situations in certain way and there's no right/wrong way to do things you just have to choose the best person for the circumstances we find ourselves in.

No probably not. But he was well respected down south. I'm trying to warm up to the idea of Keane but I'd prefer Moyes or Rodgers

    Same boat as myself.

I was young enough when Strachan got appointed but I always remember my dad predicting we'd finish fourth in the league under him after the Bratislava away leg :56:

Agree about WGS but I'm really struggling with Keane. I'm not looking at a Manager just for SPFL . Whoever we appoint has to be a Manager for Europe and for me that knocks Keane straight out because try as I might, I just don't see him in that role....but then, for different reasons I don't want either of the O'Neils or Lenny.

Whoever comes needs to hit the ground running with Qualifiers mid July. Moyes has always taken time to develop a side - Preston & Everton, so not for me. Neither is Rogers who did it with money at Liverpool and won't have it here. I would like to see us appoint someone who has experience in European football, who can handle the pressure of being a Celtic Manager and who doesn't need mega millions to achieve success. I want a fresh face at the Club and not someone appointed just because he "knows the Club".

Having said all of that I have no real passion for any of the named candidates and have this horrible feeling that whoever gets the job I will be completely underwhelmed, however being a Bhoy for +50 years, I will soon get over the disappointment.......mind you Keane might take a long time.

Experience in European football? That rules out all the likely candidates bar Lennon. :smiley-laughing002:

I think appointing someone who has a lot of experience in the CL is quite unrealistic at this stage. I'm not sure if qualifying for the CL will come into thinking when appointing a new manager, all I'm hearing from the club is talking about making it 6 in a row.

If we are going to move up and become more competitive, we need better quality players. They cost money - money we don't have and judging by today's PL interview in the Sun, money that won't be coming any time soon. Qualifying for the CL will give us around £25m revenue we don't currently have. So I would hope that we are looking at the CL.
