Lambert would be so underwhelming, especially seeing what his Villa side were like.

Anyone suggested Gus Poyet, has done a good job at all the clubs he's been at

Not too thrilled by the prospect of Lambert. Honestly if we can't get any of the A-listers (Moyes or Rodgers), I would just give it to Lennon. He should be well above the likes of Lambert, Pearson, Mackay and Keane in the pecking order imo.

That is erroneous. He was amazing at Norwich, and left to go to a bigger club. He wasn't fired by them.

Surely the board wouldn't be as stupid as that this time. They are now losing even there biggest of backers and shafting the fans this time I don't think there would be any way back for them.

Lambert isn't so bad. Did very well at Norwich and was tactically more astute than people on here will give him credit for.

Villa were a club withdrawing funds in a landscape where the teams around them were upping their investment. Not an impossible job but certainly not an easy one. Blackburn was an odd move. Piles of debt and on the verge of selling the striker whose goals had kept them affloat.

He doesn't fancy managing in Glasgow, though.

I'd like to hope so, but it's PL and this board. I wouldn't put it past them at all. They have been tight fisted for years, I know they NEED to do something but I don't think they have actually changed their mindset to do what is needed. They will try and swing a * manager as a coup no doubt. "Scotlands hottest young manager" * off! haha

How about a name like Claude Puel? Been around the block in France a bit, couple honours early in his managers career, since then managed Monaco, Lille, Lyon and Nice and in a tough league he has had some reasonable success with taking those teams to top 3 positions on a number of occasions. Would come with a wealth of knowledge and potentially pulling power of some of France younger players in the league.

I think Lambert was given bare fund's at Villa after they'd splashed some cash in previous year's. Had to sell a lot of player's, get the wage down and promote from the academy. In that sense, he probably suit's our boards way of thinking, although in reality his Villa side's were murder to watch..

I don't watch enough English football to comment on how all these guys have their sides play etc. Is it short sighted of me to put man-management and getting the best out of the players before any tactical genius?

I think after the season we've had ive resorted to this view as I'm just desperate to get games won rather than worry about how we do it. * you Ronny!

Lambert now being hammered in the betting, 8/1 at 2pm, odds-on 35 minutes later. Totally under-whelming decision if true.

The more I think about it the more I can actually see the board going with Lambert. He never complained about funds at Villa, liked to try and find gems on the cheap, is a former Celtic player so they'll be thinking it might appease the fans and will probably try to use youth a lot too. All in all he's probably another yes man who won't complain too much. Almost perfect.

Taking Lambert would be a total * let down, he has done nothing in management and would NOT... repeat NOT... be what we need, it better not be him!!
