Plenty of clubs outside Scotland do it successfully. Just seems like old-school British model with a manager in charge of everything is just too much work for one man these days.

Villa were brutal under Lambert, suffered their worst ever defeat back in 2012, 8 nil at the hands of Chelsea, i was surprised he even lasted as long as he did.

I'd much rather see the return of Lenny than have someone like Lambert tbh.

So would I- just making the point there are a lot of names being bandied about like Steve Clarke and Lambert i feel is a better manager. Really just look at villa now, to say they were brutal under lambert is unfair they were playing well above themselves as we have subsequently seen.

Lambert wouldn't even be mentioned for us if he hadn't been a Celtic player.

After Ronny i really think the last thing we need is an uninspiring appointment, we could do with a name that will excite, but i doubt this bargain basement Board will deliver tbh.

Lambert's Villa scored 11 goals in their first 22 games last season. * me, I wouldn't want to watch the football he instructs his teams to play.

You mean Moyes/Clarke are too low key? Think it'll be tough attracting anyone better. Maybe Rodgers or Martinez would be the "attacking" types for our profile.

At one point i think they went 5 or 6 games without scoring a goal, granted it was a tough gig for him, but pretty football without goals aint gonna cut the mustard.

Martinez would be very much suitable

I think the likes or Rodgers or Moyes would be considered a big name tbh, but the riches of the EPL would be hard to turn down for either men.

Strachan gambled in from 66/1 to 8/1 with some bookies.

I think he'd be a really unpopular appointment, despite being a safe pair of hands.

He's the type of guy that would have done us until the end of the season. At least we would be slightly more confident than we are just now.

He'd certainly have won that Semi last week anyway. Although that's not saying an awful lot, any semi-competent manager would have.

I have a strong feeling it's going to be either Mackay or Clarke and neither are going to be the first choices (not that they'll make it look that way of course)

Lambert done a great job at Norwich and was rewarded with a crack at a big job in Villa, he was seriously limited in the cash he could spend and so had to scrape about a bit. He is in no way responsible for wer Villa are today, thats all down to Sherwood and his * signings. Lambert is a good manager, nothing special. If i had a choice of Lambert, Clarke, Keane or Lennon then Lennon would get my vote every time. I think if we cant get someone like Moyes or say, Martinez (if he gets sacked) then we should appoint Lennon and give him 15m to spend. I think that doing this will ensure we are as well prepared for the CL qualifiers as we could be and would give us the best chance of qualifying.
