Is Clarke actually being tipped as an assistant for us by a reliable source. Have I missed something?

Nope but that's what is being discussed. Would never happen, he was the highest paid assistant in the world at one point.

Clarke was prematurely sacked by both WBA and Reading, where he could have went on to greater things.

The fact Steve Clarke is available now without any severance pay etc, is a golden opportunity for us.

    No more dunderheads please.

So that's a no then! You're asking me to name someone who would make a better assistant than Clarke for us that we have a chance of getting. When the concept of getting Clarke as our assistant has leapt from someone's overactive imagination and we don't have a clue whether we even have a chance of getting him or not. :97:

    Ok then.

Who would you suggest to come in who is going to make us play this wonderful football while also being able to win the big games when it really matters?

Now is the time to be pragmatic and look for someone who can steady us and get results no matter the standard of football. Moyes and Clarke don't even play the worst football I've ever seen either, by the way.

Give me results anyday over chasing this dream of the ideal manager who can somehow have us playing like the Lions again.

Also, the suggestion of Clarke as an assistant came from someone saying the odds had shortened on him as main gaffer, I then said I'd rather him as an assistant. No need to go off on one.

Steve McLaren wouldn't be amiss... tons of experience, and would probably jump at a cgance of CL football...

Did well at Twente and Boro. Did terribly at England, Wolfsburg, Forrest, Derby and Newcastle. No thanks.

Well see while we are indulging in a fantasy land of possible managers their assistants & any other back room staff we care to dream about try & not play the smart * by asking me when he was sacked as an assistant when I was evidently talking about being sacked from his previous 2 roles & for me that's not exactly a ringing endorsement of anyone. :50:

I hardly think this is going off on one:

    This might constitute it though:

Yeah, but wolfsburg, forrest and derby would've been little fish in a big pond surely... and as fir England, we all know that's an impossible task, especially when the media wanted Mad Harry instead if i remember right...

Way i see it, he knows how to shop around without splashing too much cash, knows how to put out an organised team, has experience with hostile media and would probably like a platform for a 'return to grace'. Can't see why that's any different from the Moyes criteria, only he's been around more than him.

Just a suggestion. truth is I don't think we'll go fir/get either those guys

    Clarke a few year's back would've been a tough ask. I 100% don't want him now..

Seems flat, dull and not up to the task of a * provincial club..

Way too big for him at this point..

:56: Dont bother fishing out the posts they were in reply to then. That would be very selective wouldn't it. Ffs seriously pathetic! :bbpd:

Edit: and from those posts 'going off on one' still doesn't spring to mind.

    I don't think that's entirely true.

    http://stv.tv/sport/football/295242-roy-keane-i-was-about-tenth-choice-for-celtic-managers-position/

At no point do I think Keane has ever suggested that Celtic aren't good enough for him, I just don't think he was willing to work under the ridiculous conditions imposed by the likes of Lawwell and co. And given the direction that the club has went in over the last few seasons it would appear that it was the right decision.

Don't want him as manager but still don't blame him for turning it down.
