Which is exactly why it wouldn't surprise me if the board didn't even get as far as picking up the phone to him :smiley-laughing002:

True but I expect them to slink out of this Deila mess relatively unharmed. This might mean placating the fans with a genuine managerial appointment. Self preservation is their aim and they might not be inclined to appoint another lapdog this time because it is risky for them because if the new lapdog fails the anger will turn to them for real.

But then again I dont think they even bother with risk assessment nevermind risk management so they might try to find another proxy to run the club through. It would not be wise though.

Any decent manager will dodge this job , Strachan was hounded by the fans ,he won 3 titles out of 4 , last 16 of the champions league twice but that wasn't good enough for the fans , can't see anyone daft enough to put up with that for the money the board would put out

The fans pay good money to go and support their team and have every right to demand improvements if the standard of football takes a dramatic nosedive like it did in Strachan's third season. It was like we had lost all imagination and was deadly boring at times. Strachan was well loved by the fans and still is. Just because he ran out of steam in his third season doesn't mean he wasn't appreciated overall.

I think you've just stated the reason they won't mate

Obviously Mowbray made a monumental * of it, but the proof's in the pudding mate - they HAVE done it and CAN do it.

Mowbray was the master of his own undoing - especially when it came to the point where he tried to rip apart an entire team (comprised of proven winners) all at the one time, and replace them with utter dross.

Not sure if this has been posted on here- apologies if it already has I feel like I might have read it before. But this is a fascinating insight into how Moyes works. Maybe its unrealistic to think we could get him but I think he would be great. He has a lot to prove, he knows to club and by the sounds of this would be able to conduct a much needed overhaul of the scouting side of things

Interesting read. I can imagine the Celtic equivalent,

Lawwell operates from the boot room. Its contents are rudimentry and highly illogical. They represent almost the entire Dundee United team, mapped out to a tee. Lawwell's entire transfer strategy is scattered across the floor on a single Post-it-note. "But low, sell high" it reads. The Daily Record lies open on the floor with the puzzle section completed in meticulous fashion.

In all honesty though, I would love to know more about our recruitment policy.

A fine read. Preparation and organisation. A real student of the game and not an aspiring one like our current manager. If we could get him in on a five year contract we would be handing over the next half decade to the safest of hands. The next half decade is critical too because he could leave basking in the glory of the 10. There is no risk in this appointment, it is just good business.

Not that big on Moyes myself. I mean did a reasonable job at Everton through incredibly pragmatic football and turned the premier league champions into a midtable table and then got sacked by Real Sociedad.

Personally, I don't think a guy who plays Fellaini and Cahill as strikers and Phil Neville in midfield should be the direction we head in.

Cahill was a proper attacking midfielder, would * love a player like that.

I actually do like Tim Cahill a lot. He's certainly a valuable player for any team to have. Real tough * too, some leap on him considering he wasn't the tallest too.

David Moyes made his name at Everton being the "underdog" with a defensive lineup. When he went to United and was demanded to play attacking football - he failed. Same thing happened at Sociedad. I personally don't think he's the man for the job.

We made an attempt at succession management with lennon-deila-kennedy and made a hash of it. Getting moyes for a few years to turn things around, get his reputation up and then moves back to England- with a younger assistant/coach primed to take over would be doing it right

True, he's a bit of a rich mans Strachan. I think he had an awful record against the big teams too Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool like he possible never won a single game away to any of them out of about 20 and even at home had quite a poor record.

Actually away to Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool he never won any out of 42 games.

Shows that he did play too defensively, it's like Strachans away record in Europe where Celtic were basically beat before a ball was kicked as we played too defensive that we barely ever scored a goal or got near scoring a goal never mind winning a game.

    Touché

Moyes fills me with dread. Never been a fan of his style & picking up a manager that has flopped in his previous two roles should be a no no. In fact not one of the names that has been put forward on here has me enthused.

Considering where we are nowadays as a club, Moyes would be an excellent appointment.

Failing at Man United is hardly embarrassing. Going abroad to an environment where British managers rarely venture as well and it not working out is hardly surprising too.

Moyes would be a fantastic appointment, as would Rogers imo.

I don't get the love in with Moyes either. When he was manager of Everton his teams were dull boring defensive pish.

Failed manager at his last two clubs despite loads of money at his disposal.
Remember the last failed manager we appointed ? Mowbray.
I think those suggesting Moyes are indulging in over-inflated laziness.
    Sorry Og1 :smiley-laughing002:
