Currently under the FIFA Transfer Regulations a football player is unable to play for more than three teams in one season. This applies whether the player has been transferred or simply is on loan with that club.

This also applies regardless of what country that player has plied his trade in, whether that is in Europe, Africa or South America. As long as a player has represented a club in a league under the adjudication of a FIFA Member Association they will only be able to play for three different clubs.

However, this does mean that a football player is free to represent a total of three different clubs in any league in the world over the course of one season.

What the * was Hooper thinking ? Could have stayed up here and been a legend , biggest club he will ever play for . It's not as if he is on mega money down there or anything , i think we would have given him a good deal on a new contract .

 

If that was fought in court I am certain that it would allow the player to sign for a third club. EU law protects workers and their movement. Look at the safe harbour ruling, if challenged in court EU law will win over private policies and procedures. It wont change unless challenged but it id put as much money as possible on a player being allowed to move clubs if he took his case to the correct court.

I thought sports contracts and freedom of movement had special provisions under EU law because if a player could move as freely as he wished then it would bring a lot of instability? I mean the transfer windows are unique to football aren't they?

3 clubs in one season though, that is not a good sign of a player's form. Hooper's confidence must have taken quite a bashing at Norwich.

Nah mate it has been challenged before Ben arfa last season played for Newcastle on first day of season then went to hull and got frozen out, also happened to that big muppet cousin played for the French team in intertoto cup game then signed for Rangers (il) and then got his move to Fulham blocked!
