That was a massive turning point.

Good effort from Ireland and a great tournament to be honest. Put out by one of the favourites is nothing to be ashamed of.

However, I've got griezeman as top goalscorer, so a little chuffed with his brace.

Normaly I would want Iceland to beat England, but right now I think i would like to see them sneak through, then France to do them over with a griezeman hat trick. And the French to really get it up the *.

Kante and Payet have been far better than him in this tournament.

Ugh, fed up of hearing this condescending * about making friends. We didn't go to France to make friends.

Massively disappointed with that second half. Everything went completely wrong. All the good from the first half was no use as we only went in with a 1-0 lead and France came out with something to prove. Worrying how brittle we looked at points...

Oh well, glad MON and Keano have been given new deals. Hopefully we can build on this and leave a bigger dent at the WC in a couple of years.

The only moment of real quality I can remember in the match from Pogba was in the first half when he turned McCarthy (I think) and completely outmuscled him before slipping a pass through into the box.

He doesn't influence games enough for me. All flash but little end product.

The quality in the knockouts has been nothing short of poor thus far.

That will no doubt change tomorrow when the ambitious Icelanders go into the biggest game of their lifetime against a very strong England side.

    Chin up.

Ireland being at the tournament would generally be the aim, getting through what's was the toughest group was an outstanding achievement, as was pushing France that closely.

The stuff about the Irish fans may come across as pretty condescending but I do believe it's very genuine. In a tournament where the English and Russians fans let themselves down massively the Irish crowd have looked first class in terms of support at the game and enjoyment away from the pitch.

I think he had a huge influence tbh.

Time and time again our players were bouncing off him and our players aren't exactly pansies. Against Italy in similar scenarios we dispossessed the Italian players regularly and it allowed us to break and get up the pitch and cause problems. Today Pogba was able to retain possession or win a free kick any time an Irish player got near him and it just mounted the pressure on us.

He might not have done a whole lot in terms of creating but he kept us on the back foot with the way he was playing, particularly in the second half and eventually we were worn out from it.

    Based on what? Natural talent?

Time for him to prove it.

    100%

Only reason you'd possibly take Pogba is his age and the potential that he screws the nut.

Payet is definitely going through a better stint of form right now, but Pogba is of Zidane's ilk. Give it a few years and you'll see what I mean. The control, the flair, the technique, it's all there in a less refined form, but time will amend that.

I wouldn't say far better but I would say they've been better. I think Pogba had a better game today though, he's so awkward to play against, Ireland had a hard time dealing with his strength and most of France's play in the second half went through him.
