People should realise how important he is in the history of Celtic. It cannot be exaggerated how close Celtic FC came to be to going out of existence. he should be honoured with a statue, imo. I am old enough to remember the importance of his intervention. A real hero in steading the ship.

"Celtic supporters understand that Celtic is a symbol of their dealing with that by not being second to anyone."

The 2nd most important person in our clubs history behind Walfrid and rightly the man should be honoured in some way at Celtic Park, whilst he is still alive.

Hated the way he treated Tommy at the time and how he let the team be destroyed when the 3 amigo's left, often wonder how good Jorge Cadete would have been, that apart the bunnet should be regarded as a real legend

Saved Celtic. That alone should make him a hero to us all.

Beyond that, he rebuilt the beautiful stadium we have today, gave a bit of the club back to the supporters and put us on a sound financial footing which served us well when all else was collapsing around us.

At the end of the day he saved our beloved Club,i did not see anybody else rising up to do that! Of course he was far from perfect as are we all,but he is a Hero in my eyes!

The thing is he was honest from the start, he never hid the fact he was here to get the club back to the level it should have been AND to make himself some money out of it along the way. Fans started getting * off because he refused to spend stupid money on players that weren't worth it like the now deceased club did and look how it ended up for them. Also employing Jock Brown was a stupid move.

The man has been painted in every roll for the club fan hero villian saviour and looking at the demise of Rangers a few years ago you realise that he may have been the most important person to ever walk thru those doors

I hated the way the media portrayed him as some sort of Scrooge figure in comparison to the largesse of the exalted Sir Minty. That's really what caused the ill-will towards him shown by some fans at the time.

Hindsight of course shows that he was simply refusing to go down the route of Murray and lead his club into oblivion.

The man's a legend and deserves to have a stand named after him.

I don't think Fergus likes Kilmarnock too much :56:

Every word that comes out his mouth is wisdom, sheer love for the man! Great to see he is getting the credit he deserves now.

If we don't go for another statue I think the North Stand should be named after Fergus, quite fitting since he built us for us.

Thing I took most from his interview was his mantra, "don't do bad deals". Makes fitba sound simple! :56:

He was right though - the EPL has become an outrageous breeding-ground for "bad deals" becoming acceptable.

That league has caused so much damage to the international market - teams throwing bucket-loads of cash at mediocre players. :38:

    "Don't pay £10m for a £5m player."

Clubs in England are paying £20m for £5m players :56:
