Calls for transgender woman to be moved from male prison

A petition calling for a transgender woman to serve a prison sentence in a female prison has attracted more than 10,000 signatures in under 24 hours. Tara Hudson, 26, from Bath, was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail after admitting assault. She has had reconstructive surgery and lived as a woman all her * life but, because she is legally a man, was sent to the all male HMP Bristol.

"His" gender has changed, for all intents and purposes. His * hasn't, which is a different thing altogether.

 

Why you want to discuss this if I may ask? What's your opinion on it and why?

 

She probably shouldn't have assaulted anyone.

I suppose there's the possibility she may be in a bit more danger if there's rapists and that in the prison but ultimately if she's a man by law then she's in the right place.

It might be. I'm really not sure on this one. But I don't think she should be moved prison while it is still the law due to public outcry and I think it should be looked at to see what other legal aspects segregate men and woman outwith prisons before we allow surgery to change people's legal status.

 

You can't change your * - of that I agree.

However needs must, this guy will get raped senseless if he isn't being watched like a hawk.

Surely cheaper to just send these folk to a female/male prison (fit accordingly in terms of transgender gender).

I think there's a case for having designated sections for transgender inmates,if only for their safety.

Where would they be though,male or female prisons..both?

 

Are there enough transgender prisoners for such a thing though? As someone mentioned above "You can not change your gender". I dunno. Not sure how I feel about it. It says he/she did undergo surgery, but isnt that called a trans sexual?

 

In Places like American there should be completely separate parts of the prison for Lgbt members and others who'd most likely be at risk for rape or voilence


I'm not to sure about UK prisons and I doubt there would be any need for it in Ireland
