As far as I know it was a promotion so he could implement structural changes over the scouting network, he has carte blanche over that now. Whereas before he was the head scout, he controlled it but worked within the parametres set from above.

The scouts do have a massive influence on recruitment but they aren't able to force a manager to sign a player, especially not one like Carlton Cole who had just taken part in a 2 month trial.

As it is, I don't think we've used our scouts in the last two years. Most guys we signed was ones Ronny personally witnessed or had knowledge of himself.

I didn't mean to imply I thought he could force players on managers
Just that he was more "senior" than just head scout.

Like you said if a manager doesn't want a player that is identified
Lawwell just puts the purse back in his bag.

Will never forget those goals against Stranraer.. and not to even mention the stretching and jogging he did down the sideline.
    Legend, will be missed.

On Thursday, Celtic announced on their official website that Cole is leaving Celtic Park.

The 32-year-old striker has admitted that he found it tough at the Hoops last season, but he has thanked the fans for their support and for singing his name even when he was not on the pitch.

"It was a difficult season in terms of getting enough game time,” Cole told The Scottish Sun. “I really wanted to help the boys on the field.

"The support I received from the fans will give me great memories, to hear them singing my name even when I wasn’t on the pitch was special.

"So a big thank you to the green and white family. I wish everyone associated with Celtic FC all the best for the future."

It's a shame he couldn't get fit. He was never going to be a world beater but he could have been useful.

Seems a decent bloke. Good luck to him.

At least he hasn't done the usual from players who leave us on not the best of terms and slated the league quality etc.

Probably a bit late in his career for him to have done much at us, but all the best in the future.

He's * but it's nice to see players speak fondly of the club instead of having a cheap pop

Pity we didn't see what he is undoubtedly capable of. I genuinely thought he'd be an asset, but for one reason or another it just didn't work out for him.

Still can't believe we actually signed him.

As bad as Ronny was, what hope did he have when he was forced to have this * as his second choice striker?
