There was a guy in my old local when I was younger who would play pool for a pint.

    * never spent a penny and got shitfaced because he was so good. :smiley-laughing002:

This is what I want to know. I would probably need to go a month without booze to see if I'm truly dependant on it, but I enjoy it so much that I canny be arsed trying.

I was the same. Two to six pints play great. More than that it goes downhill fast.

If I'm sitting in the house on a Friday night before I go out I WANT a drink. The next morning when I'm hungover my body NEEDS a drink.

Kinda easy to tell the difference.

Alcohol relaxes you and your mind, therefore some people play pool better because they're thinking less about the shots they make.

It is a very fine line between want and need for a drink, but wanting a drink every single day, even if it is just one is not healthy behaviour in my opinion.

If you are drinking every single day I would suggest you have a problem.

Clinically and technically I don't know if that's the case but I don't see how you could argue you don't have a dependence on booze if there are no days when you don't drink to prove you can live without it.

Most of the time I go two days without a drink, sometimes one day and very rarely two days in a row.

    * it but. I feel reasonably healthy in body anyway. As soon as my body tells me it's not enjoying it I will react.

I drink near enough everyday and I don't think I have a problem, I don't see any reason to take an off day aswell I already know I can do without it.

'Near enough' isn't every day. When I was at Uni I drank 'near enough' every day as well but I knew I didn't have a problem as id get bored of it then go a week without.

Someone boozing every single day of ther life has nothing to compare a day on the booze to a day off it. How can they say then they don't have a problem?

A topic on which I should to think...

I drink a few beers every day, no exception! Earlier I used to wake up in the street or in a hospital after a drinking session (two very bad experiences that "mark" you for life in a small town where I live). So I for a long time don't drink strong drinks (gin possibly once every six months, but rakija never again), a few beers during each day has become routine.

I don't think the OP means getting pished every night, obviously that's a problem i thought you were meaning more a few cans at night in the house every day which I do.

See I find it's due to your surroundings. Where you've came from and where you are heading. Also a big part is your resolve. I've got an addictive personality. It's why I don't gamble. I have put my years in of smoking weed. Banging pills and snorting whatever. I cut out the class A's about 7 years ago. Wasn't really drinking before that. I'm 40 now. Started hammering the grass and hash which I've smoked from 13 along with alcohol. After years of promising the Mrs of stopping, I cut the smoke out about 4 years ago and the alcohol about 1 year ago. After I cut these out I have been battling depression and anxiety. Sometimes I wonder if I'm better off smoking. But wouldn't go back.

I drink regularly, but not a lot i dont think.Maybe between 10-25 beers a week, and virtually no spirits, although on an odd occasion i'll take a few halfs!

I go through wee phases where i wont touch a drink in the house all week, and then the next week i'll have 1-4 cans every night.
If i go to the pub i will on average have about 5 pints.

I dont think i have a problem in the slightest.....i like the taste of beer, and also red wine, but that isnt quite as refreshing for me so maybe only drink it on social occasions.

My days of getting smashed are long behind me, thankfully, although on the very odd occasion, maybe a funeral or something, i will have a long sesh and take 2 days to fully recover, which i totally resent.I truly hate getting * now and 9 times of of 10 i will consciously slow down when i know its going to be a long one!

Do any of you wake up and crack a beer open next day if your off work and have been drinking the night before? I'm guilty of that but don't drink every day.

I think alcoholism is far more rife than people realise.
We tend to think of alcholics as old jakeys sat on a park bench with the red face and smashed nose, so people don't tend to think of themselves in that way.

I'd say if you drink every day to 'unwind' then that is a dependency.

Also saying you don't take a day off from it because you know deep down you can stop if you want..... That's what alcoholics say.

I've had 2 uncles and 1 aunt die from alcohol abuse and my dad was ill from it about 15 years ago.
He was a typical 'few cans every night' drinker and by 50 it nearly killed him.

I had 2 years off the drink and didn't miss it. I used to drink weekends - getting *.
I now only drink one or two cans on a Saturday night or if i'm at a pub or restaurant.
Last time i got smashed was Christmas works do.
