It's not pointless at all to stockpile talented players. If it is believed that Christie will be good enough to make an impact then we're better off buying him now instead of losing out on him like we did Fletcher, McCarthy, Gauld and Robertson. The key is to loan him back to ICT to continue his development by playing regular first team football instead of stalling and rotting away on our bench. It's a low risk, high reward strategy.

Inverness give Christie permission to discuss personal terms with Celtic

"As a result of a further approach from Celtic FC, and following discussions with the management team and the player, the board of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC can confirm that Ryan Christie has been given leave to travel to Glasgow to discuss personal terms."

Going by some of the comments in here I think a lot of people will be surprised by him anyway. He's a good player with the scope to get a whole lot better. You'd think he was run of the mill * the way folk are going on.

If he's good enough to come in and start then why is he going back on loan?

    You haven't a clue.

Exactly my feelings. We're all fed up of ignoring the talent when they move south and we've missed the boat by not getting then in a window or two before they wave goodbye to Scottish football.

Ajax do it - buy the best talents in their league and loan them out to other teams in the Netherlands. I don't understand why we don't.

I'm not saying this is solely the route we should take but I'm sick and tired of losing out on players like McCarthy, Fletcher et al. We still need to import from foreign lands too. We just need a balance that recently has favoured these exotic players. Some work, some don't.

My only issue is that it's a long term strategy and we won't reap the rewards for a few years. I'm prepared to wait if we follow through with it and we offer those kids the chance to be loaned out and not rot on th bench.

Well that was the best football game I've ever been to! Atmosphere was absolutely incredible. Was close to tears when we sang YNWA #celtic

His old man's a Tim as well IIRC.

I think he will be a good player for us, he's the stand-out player in that ICT team and with the right development could go a long way.

Completely agree :50: As for your last paragraph, I don't believe that signing young players for the future should excuse the board, scouting and management from signing players we require to improve just now too. As much as this is a long term strategy, we're in a position that we need to strengthen now also. As happy as I am to see us signing the country's best young players, I'll be equally as frustrated if the gaping holes in our first team squad aren't filled before midnight tomorrow.

So over ten years, who have we really missed out on? Fletcher? Hardly gone on to be an amazing player. Ryan Gauld? Good, but still to fulfil potential.

So other then James McCarthy, what genuine quality players have we missed out on?

I like the idea of signing Scottish talent because our youth team is really lacking in players who can make that jump to the first team and that's been the case for a while now.

The problem is over doing it when it's experience and proven players which we need for the CL.

Andy robertson seems to be a good player, we needed a good left back as well.

I would say Andy Robertson & Johnny Russell were two players we badly missed out on as well. Both would add a lot to the current team.
