The best thing we could possibly do is strike a balance between bringing in the best young Scottish talent, and adding top young players from abroad where possible.
I think the club is moving towards having a more Scottish-based squad. They provide a strong 'core', and they are generally more likely to stick around longer, as well as costing less in transfer fees & wages.

The best young players in Scotland will, at the very least, be good squad players at Celtic. We have already seen Armstrong, Mackay-Steven and Griffiths come in and have an impact in recent times.

As long as we continue to get our overseas recruitment right, this is a transfer model that could work really well for us.

Our best players in recent years id say are Lustig, Van Dijk, Denayer, Bitton, Wanyama, Ledley, Johansen and Hooper who were all signed from abroad. If we want to regularly reach the Champions League we need more players like them, it's unlikely a team of Mulgrew, Allen, Armstrong, Mackay-Steven, Griffiths etc will reach the Champions League Groups.

So buying from abroad is the better option.

Our whole squad plays football, some good, others bad.

We need a team for now with genuine quality brought in, not some player who's gonna be half decent in 5 years.

I'm afraid we have to do that.

If you think that every £1-4m player we buy will be a star then you are being a bit naive. It's a very risky price range to operate in because alot of players at that level are unproven, vast majority are.

You have to take the good with that bad. Every club does it, not every transfer will be successful but our best players from the last 5 year since this policy really took off, have been foreign imports.

I'm even counting those from England amongs that, Hooper, Ledley, Matthews, Forster. None of them Scottish, anyway.

Ultimately the best talent which will see us become better and not stagnate as an average side with alot of good Scottish players but none who really stand out on a bigger stage, will come from abroad.

I wish we could just hit a balance of both. I like buying young Scottish talent don't get me wrong but it seems to be we either buy all foreign players or all Scottish players and that's what's seriously limiting us. During Lennon's time we missed out on players like Gauld, Russell and Robertson who are all arguably better than the young players we're signing now but bought a lot of foreign players like Pukki, Balde and Boeriggter. Now we seem to be ignoring the foreign market and only signing domestic players which clearly won't work either.

He's a good wee player, plenty of potential. For 500K and loan if back for the season it's a good deal, just failing to understand why we are buying players in our strongest position, yet another one that will be played out of position.

Any updates could shape up to be a few deadline deals!

This signing Scottish players as a priority is a load of pish, we should be signing players who are good enough to play for us regardless of their nationality.
If we started an 11 from ghana then fair enough as long as they were celtic quality :56:

Is he good enough to come in and start?

I'm judging no as he's going back on loan, we've enough projects and squad players.

    Fud.

You need to remember as a team we also have to improve our subs and back up players.
Look at some of the games we rest players, the ones that come into the team are just not good enough.

And yes i know we beat untd 3-0.
