Seems a lot of money for an SPL player from ICT in a position we don't need to strengthen, and with him staying there for a year.....in fact it seems downright daft when we're so short defensively.

Personally I think this was a signing we wanted to make next year, hands been forced with Swansea sniffing around though.

Again, it doesn't take that long to send an offer for a footballer, and if they were going to sign players for the positions we actually need, this wouldn't be stopping that.

Ah yeh, could well be that. Wasn't aware of Swansea's interest.

Yes, but we can't just buy everycunt who shows glimpses of potential, we must be smart when it comes to buying from SPFL.

And we already have many too many players who can play behind striker, I'm not sure we need another one.

It doesn't take long, but it all comes out of the same budget. £500k isn't a small amount for us unfortunately, and i don't doubt that it's an amount that the board would walk away from a potential signing over.

I think we should be signing up the best of young Scottish talent.

    Johansen
    Commons
    Armstrong
    Forrest
    Mackay Steven
    Allan
    Rogic
    Henderson
    Christie

Allan and Rogic will probably end up playing Centre Mid.
Johansen will probably move on at some point in the near future, end of this season or next.
Commons is getting on a bit and you'd imagine in 2 years he won't have a similar squad status.

That's five players for the 3 positions behind the striker that we could have signed up the now and develop for when the above players leave. With rotation there would still be room for other youngsters, I'm thinking of the likes of Nesbitt and Miller to gain experience.

    Nothing wrong with planning ahead.

A possible future midfield could be

    Henderson Armstrong Christie
    Allan Rogic

In like 2/3 years time. It's all about development.

Still agree with the sentiment that we need first team quality reinforcements now though.

When did we sign any of them players??? I don't get you're post at all?

If you misunderstood my post you can count back in the last 10 years and look at the millions wasted, all these 100K/500k deals on young raw potential talents

Everyone could see how good McCarthy was but we would not pay the million, McArther was not as good as McCarthy. The club needed Flectcher but the board couldn't not get Hibs to sell or did not put the money up, remember signed another good young players in the league..... Flood instead....... And everyone was crying out for us to sign Russell but it never happend, he could have got into the side.

Feel free to see all the signings on this link

Me too, we should be like Bayern Munich of Scotland.

When you are over loaded in certain department and when you seriously lack experience, sometimes you should pass on some players. He's a good player with good potential, but so are Armstrong, Rogić, and Allan, far too many projects. He's one for the future since he would join next season, but I'm not sure where he would fit in.

Knowing my luck he will come here and turn into Scottish Messi. :icon_mrgreen:

Exactly, Gauld and Christie are by far the most exciting Scottish prospects just now.

Thing is we all know we are not gonna get first team players in with signings like this.

I'm not saying the boy is not good, but he is clearly not going to walk into our first team and we need that.

I'm just sick of us clearly downgrading each season.

I don't know what players you're talking about. Mackay-Steven for £250k? Stokes for £1m or so about 4/5 years ago?

    Armstrong and Ciftci.

Does Griffiths count? Scott Brown, Scott McDonald, Barry Robson and Paul Hartley if you go back further :icon_mrgreen:

Chris Killen and Steven Pressley? :fear:

If this is true, it's yet another thoroughly underwhelming signing, which demonstrates the tragic lack of ambition currently at Celtic.

I agree about Johansen and Commons, but Allan and Rogić would require a player like Brown/Lennon/Wanyama next to them in order to play at CM.

I'm one of Ronnie's biggest supporters, I'm all for development youngsters either from our academy or from other Scottish clubs, but as you've said yourself, right now we need couple of instant first team quality reinforcements.

I agree about Gauld, although I'm not 100% sure if Christie can become a big player for us in future.
