From what I've seen of the guy in the flesh, that is a pittance.

I'd heard about him for ages and never really took notice. However, any time I've seen he looks quality.

He came on at home to us a couple of weeks ago with ICT looking dead and buried then they scored 2 goals.

Well, if that turns out to be the case, then I'd agree. But Celtic will have multiple feelers out and will be looking to strengthen the squad in other, more immediate, ways than this. The fact that this one may get over the line first is neither here nor there to be frank.

The lack of UCL will of course mean limitations in who we sign but I don't imagine signing Christie would change the picture in any significant way outwith that.

The fact he won't join until next season surely tells us he's not a quick fix replacement to our current issues.

People were bubbling along fairly nicely about the quality of our team until we * it up royally since the last 30 seconds of the Malmo game and now peopel are in full blown panic mode.

I get it, but the truth lies somewhere in between...and we are not proposing Christie as the solution.

Surely we haven't put in a half a million bid?

As Daleer is saying, we need some * experience in our team. Not another 20 year old from the SPL. I'll be fine with the signing if we go out and also spend some money on a striker, left back and a centre half. But I'll be shocked if we sign 4 players in 4 days.

Is he really at a level where he'll potentially start for us? I can't see it. We have Armstrong and Forrest in good form right now. GMS is going through a bad patch but hopefully that changes soon. Nothing I've seen from Christie makes me think he's better than any of those.

Aye, we should be looking to strengthen the areas we are poor in before bringing in players where we already have multiple options.

As long as he's not our only signing I'd be quite chuffed about this. Really like him as a player and I feel he's better than Allan

Happy with this although it is clearly not the type of player that we need at this moment. He looks quality and he will only improve. At least we are getting in early before a premiership team nicks him for pennies and then he does well. Still hoping to sign a LB, CB, a striker and sell a few.

    Another midfielder... really?

I'm not saying he's a bad player, but do we really need both Allan and Christie?

Can we not start signing some decent defenders instead of overloading the midfield?

I can't say he has ever really stood out, to me.

I suppose the fact that he'd be getting loaned back to them, makes me warm to it more. We need some other bodies in though.

Most notably a left back, bit perplexed with the Van Dijk situation too, thought he'd have been on the plane immediately after Tuesday night. Not that I'm moaning but I expect any deals we do hinges on him leaving.

Half a million and being loaned back to them.

We must be swimming in cash.

Looking forward to about 7 mill being spent in the next few days...

Not impressed by this signing at all. FFS we are not happy about getting put out of the CL so what do we do? We sign a player from ICT who we wont use this season and will probably go down the same route as Dylan Mc Geoch who I think is better than this boy.

No. He was young player of the year in an award that only young scottish players were eligible for.

Wouldn't be against it. Definitely one for the future, especially if we're to loan him straight back.

Having said that, we need players to improve the first team. Now.

    You sure about that?

Zurab Khizanishvili won it in 2002 and the wiki page for the award makes no mention of it being exclusive to Scots:

The Scottish Football Writers' Association Young Player of the Year (often called the SFWA Young Player of the Year, or simply the Scottish Young Player of the Year) award is given to the footballer in the Scottish football league system, who is seen to have been the best young (under 23) player of the previous season. The shortlist is compiled by the members of the Scottish Football Writers' Association (the SFWA), who also vote for the winner. The prize is seen as the highest awarded to a young player as it names the "Young Player of the Year"; the footballer who is seen to have been the best young player over the previous season. The award was first made in 2002, and was won by Motherwell forward James McFadden.

They said last year Denayer didn't win it because it is for Scottish Players only.
