2016/17 UEFA Champions League Qualifiers

I can see the first qualifier being laborious, but I can't imagine we won't get through.

I'm a bit more worried about the next one if we draw a decent side. We really need a solid back 4 going into qualifiers. The pressure builds immensely during these qualification runs and with the money we've spent on Rodgers it's going to be worse. A solid defence would inspire confidence and prevent us collapsing under pressure like last year.

Toure/Caulker and Gunter might do the trick. These should be priorities.

I think it's to do with the country coefficient rather than the club coefficient that determines who is in pot 1, Leicester are in pot 1 and they have one of the lowest coefficients in the groups. The Netherlands might have dropped down some places.

PSV will be a top seed again. They changed the seeding so that to be a top seed you need to be a league winner.

EDIT: apparently it is only the top 7 countries league winners that are seeds, not 8. Weird rule. I was wrong PSV will be 3rd or 4th seeds

 

The 8 pot 1 spots go to the winners of the 7 highest ranked leagues and the winner of the last champions league. Last year Barça won the spanish league and the champions league so that opened up a pot 1 spot for the eighth highest ranked league: the eredivisie.
This year Real Madrid take the eighth spot so the eredevisie loses its pot 1 team.
