For the foreseeable future it's only Barca, RM, Bayern and then the english sides will probably have an outside chance from next season onwards. Meh.

I'm never that bothered about it other than watching us play in it.

    Blame ILTC.
He's the one who started the thread and could have put them in the poll.

That was their striker and right winger I think. They got absolutely bullied by Blind and Shaw.

definitely, they had one shot on goal and we only had 19, and we also had a clear penalty non given. the ref should've given 4 minutes at least and the cross for the goal was on the verge of the 93 minute, cant see how anyone can dispute the result

mind you, it wasnt a great performance. Theres no spark in our football, we arent creating the amount and kind of chances you'd hoped from these players. We are not going to win the CL this year, thats for sure, but it was great to be back, and fair play to brugge, they gave us a good fight

Man U were clearly the best team but it's cause Brugge had a go from the start I felt so gutted for them. Utd would've still won the tie but the Brugge fans were so great I really wanted them to take the optimism of 2 1 home with them.

    Barca, no questions asked

After us I would love Barca to win it in style again.

But have you seen Bayern with their new superstar Douglas? This could be a big season for them.

Wish UEFA would do something to make it more interesting, always going to be the same teams winning it now and no matter how good and attractive their football is it's just not the same as a lot of teams having a chance. Have a quota of home grown players could be a start.

No team has ever retained the Champions League trophy, it's a very hard thing to do, I fancy Bayern their acquisition's of Douglas Costa and Vidal will take them to the next level.

I think Man City could have an outside chance if they sign De Bruyne.

    Hart
    Sagna Kompany Otamendi Kolarov
    Toure Fernandinho
    De Bruyne Silva Sterling
    Aguero

Thats a good team, defence unproven really Kompany's not been that consistant in a while, Otamendi is new, Fernandinho will need to do a lot of defending but going forward that would be a really exciting team with a good mix of skill, pace and plenty of goals.

You wonder if they could knock out a Barca, Bayern, Real or PSG though. I think Bayern will win it, can probably rule out Barca as I can't see them going all the way 2 year in a row, Real Madrid aren't that solid at the back when they meet another big team but Bayern have a lot of quality and the advantage that by the time the big games come around they'll probably have their League wrapped up again so can prioritise the CL.

    * will have to wait a few years. even with their oil money they'll need experience and time against the big boys before they can realistically aspire to win the whole thing. Chelsea had to wait quite a while, PSG havent come close, its a "process" :p

Its between real madrid, bayern and barca, but even though I despise him, Benitez is an excellent cup manager, so Id put RM as main favourites. From the english teams only chelsea have a long shot. Fact is, in a world with so few real world class footballers available, what makes the difference are the nationals, and our english players are absolute * compared to the germans and spaniards

I was talking to an italian friend and he told me something very interesting: while we celerabrate in england corners we won't win anything. Its true, theres a lack of understanding of the subtleties of the game, not just from pundits, but from fans, managers, players, everyone. We celebrate like drunken kids everytime theres a corner, but theres been ages since we've been clearly superior in the air to any top european team. Even barca and their midgets outclassed us in the air as well as the ground.

I think this season the european failure for english teams will continue despite all the money spent

I don't buy this they need time and experience. There players have all played in the champions league plenty of times. If they don't win there just not good enough. If any team was to retain it that'd be barca. That front trio is deadly.

well, yes, they also are not good enough. Their midfield is clearly inferior compared to RM, barca and bayern, and midfields is what wins you titles in international football

the lack of attention to technically proficient midfields with a good balance, is what made english teams fell behind their european counterparts, particularly spaniards, who are obsessed by midfielders. United just this year have finally a decent midfield but still lacking in the creative area, and their passing is too slow, but we're getting ready. As great as fergie was, he never understood the importance of midfield in modern football, and thats why we were destroyed by barca twice
