Scottish based players

We wouldn't get out of the champions league group stages with the best national team Scotland could field. I think we've got all the SPL talent in our squad that we need at the moment.

This about sums it up. It's all well and good having a strong Scottish (or even British or Irish) presence in our squad, but the way modern football is we're always going to need some foreign imports to succeed. Just look at Strachan's successful side for example: Caldwell, McManus, Robson, Hartley, Brown, Telfer, Naylor, McGeady etc provided a great backbone, but we wouldn't have been near as successful without Boruc, Nakamura, Hesselink etc.

I'm all for buying the very best of Scottish talent before it goes down south and we're priced out of a move, like Fletcher, McCarthy, Snodgrass and Robertson, but we have to be careful to pick the cream of the crop and not just overload our squad with average players.

 

Know one is say we should sign everyone from Scotland,Ronny has said he will look here first,surely that's what everyone wants so we don't lose out on a Fletcher,McCarthy,Robertson,Gauld who by the way would all walk into our first 11 imo.

 

It might just be my lack of knowledge of the Scottish Premier League but I don't know any other Scottish players that could come into our team. I remember thinking players like Riordan would be good for us but when they pull on the hoops it changes. A good player for Killie (or any other SPL team) isn't a good player for Celtic (necessarily). I don't see why Ronny felt the need to say what he said as Celtic has always had a fine group of Scots playing in our team. As well with all this nonsense surrounding Allan who I think isn't fit for the first team (yet, but I can't see it changing anyway) I don't think anything needs to change. Instead of weakening other teams we need to think about bolstering ours.

The American's are all over the German approach..

 

Then follow he German approach instead of USA's version of the German approach.

Saying that, WGS hasn't signed a new contract yet. Klinsmann wouldn't be a bad replacement

 

I don't know if I could take a foreign manager who sings the German, American and Scottish national anthems

 

Uniformity is needed in coaching and basic standards of certification plus some kind of auditing of what coaches are doing.

Too many egos in youth football that would be better off at home playing football manager.

Seriously though, probably some time in the 80s.

It seemed as though the big influx of foreign players coming into the British leagues started in the 90s and progressed from there.

 

Scott Bain would be a good backup keeper, Ali Crawford and John Mcginn are good midfielders.

It wasn't the Scottish talent that let us down tonight

 

This is where I think we are at a big disadvantage.

We need to pay over the odds for average Scottish players, whereas teams like Malmo can pick up home grown talent for far less and the players will more than likely be technically better. Plus they probably produce better through their academies than us also.

That's the one advantage I think teams from Sweden, Norway, Poland etc have over us.

 

Ryan Gauld is the one that really got away, I was in Lisbon earlier in the month and saw him for Sporting B and he looked outstanding, the Sporting fans I spoke with seem to think he will be too good for them in a few seasons if he develops his body strength and go on to ome of the top European sides, their words not mine
