This is the problems with you kids these days - absolutely no * respect.

Phil O'Donnell was supporting and playing for this club before you chose to support us 'cos we seem to have the best support and honest hard working players!!

Maybe once you get a bit of life experience you might begin to appreciate and understand things more.

Do us a favour and stick to Man U will you. :bbpd:

    Double posting this:

I sent PMs to some of you but its still not getting through I feel.

Please don't attack other members for their views on either side. Post your opinion of the cancellation and honor Phil. If we attack others for their opinions no matter how you view their morality it will do us no good. All it will create is conflict in this trying time for a large majority of the celtic community. No one likes their morality questioned.

Attacking and abusing other Celts is not a way to honor.

Just let it be done and over. To those who feel slighted ignore it and to those who slight others. Please stop. Not a way to honor a fallen former celt.

Would be ashamed to lock this but its an insult haven right now. Pay respects and honor.

as soon as i learned on Saturday about his death, i thought to myself that since this happened on the field of play, that the majority of SPL fixtures over the next week would probably be postponed.

My mate and I sitting at the pub sharing a pint after the Gretna match looked at each other, and I said to him I am almost certain this means the OF match is not going off, and he agreed.

Although the man played for Celtic during a time when I did not support the club, I still feel empty and sad for his family, friends, and brothers in football. An unexpected death is the worst thing in the world to try to cope and deal with.

Despite what some think of Chick this is a good read:

Devastated, angry, distraught, alone. Phil O'Donnell's family will be experiencing all of these emotions. They had stolen from them a husband, a father, a son and a friend. It's all scandalously unfair.

They now, as I did when my son Keith was taken seven years ago, will wonder why the world continues to revolve. Why it hasn't stopped in its tracks, how people can possibly go about their business as normal.
Ultimately, of course, life goes on because it has to, because - when all is said and done - there is no alternative.
Only this time it was about to proceed with too much haste.
In the end they got it right, but how could it have taken so long to arrive at the decision to postpone the Old Firm match?
While the decision-makers dithered - and at one point were seemingly about to carry on regardless - they insulted the memory of Phil and showed an alarming absence of compassion towards his family.
It didn't do much for the dignity of the game, either.
It was fine, it seemed, to postpone matches for the cause of the national team and for nursing Rangers' hopes in Europe. But as a mark of respect to a footballer who was a thoroughly decent bloke and who died in the most dramatic of circumstances?

    No, sorry, carry on regardless.
But, in the end, common sense won the day for the sake of a distraught widow and four kids who will never see their dad again.
Forget your conspiracy theories. Bin your alternative agendas.
Gordon Strachan was initially reluctant to call for the postponement of the fixture.
He sensed that there would be those who would point the finger at Celtic and say that they were only making the request because of injuries and suspension - that here was a perfect way out for them.
I questioned the manager, suggesting that surely even in these bitter times there would not be those in the west of Scotland who would be so downright twisted.
    But sadly he's probably right.
Strachan and Walter Smith both wanted the game off while others procrastinated.
In the end it wasn't just the right decision, it was the only one.
The real curiosity was that three other fixtures in the SPL and games at a lower level remained in the diary. How, in particular, can the players of Dundee United who witnessed this horror unfold before their eyes, be ready to kick a ball again?

I don't think this has done much for the image of our game. It has scarred its beautiful face a little.
Compassion first, commerce in its wake.
The decision to postpone should never have taken so long.
Death is an evil business at the best of times, but the circumstances and the timing of Phil's passing were just horrific.
It will take a long time for his family to get over what has happened here.
The Motherwell players will take a lot of nursing although I just wish the rest of the game could have acted with the dignity of their manager.
Mark McGhee has been a class-act in all of this.
They will play again when they are ready and when they do they will be ripped apart by emotion.
But it is a step they will have to take.
Meanwhile, if you were inconvenienced by the postponement of a football match then you will just have to live with it.
And if you're moaning about it then go and have a look in the mirror. The game will be played another day. Those kids won't see their dad again.<!-- E BO -->

Mate... How is this a good thing to have people jumping over others cases over and over. If this was a thread about anything else it wouldnt be allowed.

They can discuss it without insulting others. Its not like theres 1 or 2 offenders theres like 5 or 6. What are we a bunch of toddlers?

Fair enough. McGeady will play but that bonus can't really be appreciated because of the way we've gotten it.

    * raging about this. Surely the best way to remember Phil is to play the game in front of a packed Celtic Park. I'm just back in from CP making up a couple of tribute banners for the game. Heard it was canceled off the Setanta guys who started to de-rig their stuff. Surely to * a packed CP with banners and a minutes silence would have been a great send off for him!!

^^ I agree. I don't think it should have been cancelled but we'll have to get on with it and look at the 'bright' side.

I think a minutes applause would be a better send off. 70,000 people. That's a better send off imo.

But I guess there's people like McManus & McDonald, it's hard for them to cope

I think it was due to McManus who i think was close to his family, McDonald who played with him and Burns who managed him aftershock.
I can understand your frustration though, and alot of people travelling from other countries and taking time off of work, and maybe unable to attend the re-match will be very disapointed.
I think the best way to honour him would be to attend his benefit match which i'm sure will be arranged with us.
I'd imagine you will be a definite for that game aftershock.

this is 100% correct decision. in fact the spl should have cancelled all the games on wednesday out of respect.

people on here complaining bout the decision or saying good as we'll have mcgeady back are doing so in extremely poor taste imo

have u seen a handsome hun
i must admit that reading some of the messages in this thread has been a bit of an eye opener to the mind set of some of the so called best fans in the world.
youre a disgrace.... you know who you are.
sure we are always disappointed when a game gets postponed. but i believe that the death of phil O Donnell is a valid reason, given that he was a former player and long time friend of some of our playing staff.
i was nothing more than a fan of phils when he graced our field of dreams, and the last few days i've felt quite gutted. imagine then how i'd feel if he was my friend would i be ready to go and play a game of football. nah.
celtic and rangers have reacted in the proper and correct manner giving phils family as much respect as they can, and both sides should be applauded for their stance.
we'll get to watch this game in a few weeks..... phil wont.

bottom line..... a man has died and there is nothing more important in life than family..... phil was part of our extended family and should be honoured with respect.

sleep tight phil, yer place in celtics heaven eleven is assured my bhoy.

once a celt always a celt.

Agree, I'm totally suprised all the games haven't been postponed, don't know how the Dundee Utd players will cope having seen him collapse on the pitch
