Griff or Cifcti can score against this mob, plus remember guys, we get our goals from all over the pitch too, that's part of our way of playing. I'm confident, especially at home, we will pump them; just don't concede Celtic!

Hope so, mate. Think I'm just starting to get pre-match nerves and worrying about every little thing.

Because we're better now than we were back then, and they've sold 3 of their best players. Plus Soriano was injured.

My feeling is we need to beat Malmo at home without conceding to progress.
Even another 1-0 would be great for us, for Malmo are well nigh unbeatable at home in Europe before their fanatical support.

Agree with this. Unfortunately his attitude took the decision to sign him out of our hands.

Based on what? Our support is very hit and miss in these games.

Didn't we have Denayer and Guidetti in our squad then?

    Not denying that bud :50:
Just pointing out the necessity of having an advantage after Wednesday night. Key will be if the defence can keep a blank sheet. My team talk would center on keeping a clean sheet at all costs.

Guidetti didn't play in the group stage. Yes we had Denayer but I'm talking about our team as a whole. We are a better team than we were then.

    Albeit, not by much.

I think that's debatable to be honest. I haven't really seen much by way of improvement in our squad during the summer, and none of the singings we made during the window thus far have really impressed me too much.

There's time for that to change obviously, but as things stand I have zero confidence of us doing anything of note in the group stages should we get there with this current side.

It's nothing to do with the signings. Just purely looking at the team from that match compared to now you can see we are a better team.

    26 Gordon
    02 Matthews
    04 Ambrose
    05 van Dijk
    03 Izaguirre
    08 Brown
    21 Mulgrew
    42 McGregor
    25 Johansen
    10 Stokes
    28 Griffiths

In terms of your second point, I agree. If we get to the group stage I don't think we'll do much at all.

Personally, I'd take a squad containing Denayer and Guidetti over what we have at the moment, especially heading into a Champions League qualifier and possibly even a group stage campaign.

Well we were originally talking about the 3-1 game against Salzburg, a game that neither Denayer nor Guidetti played in.:smiley-laughing002:

Anyway, we are definitely lacking a good striker. Said it plenty of times but I'm just not a fan of Griffiths at all. I know he scores goals in the league but he's such a limited player. We need far better than him.

We have the makings of a good team. If Boyata can cut out the silly mistakes and we can sign a left back and a striker who is a level above what we have then we're laughing. At least one of those things won't happen though.

I've always said that Griffiths is solid at what he does. He's a domestic level striker who could occasionally do some damage when introduced from the bench in Europe in certain circumstances no doubt.

I don't fancy him as a starter though (although he's currently earned the right to do just that at the moment in my opinion), and I believe we need a Guidetti-style striker to come in and take that starters position and make it his own.

As for Boyata, I'm not impressed thus far. I cringe to think what we'll be like at the back if he's being paired with Efe in the event of Van Dijk moving on.
