I'd play Mulgrew at left back.

His delivery and height advantage could be key.

That's a good point. But what about starting Izzy while we're going at them then bringing Chico on for him to see it out?

I just think Charlie is a lot safer and less error prone and we can't be making stupid mistakes in these games or we'll get punished and we know what that will entail.

Izzy on the bench for me. I don't rate Tierney at all unfortunately. He's not good enough and we can't play him in these games.

Their manager seems to be a bit of a *. Complains about their transfer window shutting before uefa's registration deadline.

Muppet. Swedes FA could change their own window as nearly everyone else's window closes September the first. Also, they started their league well before us.

Swings and roundabouts, you moaning *.

Stokes isn't match fit and can't play lone striker for toffee. I like your thinking, they'll never see that coming. :smiley-laughing002:

I said that week I felt confident as long as we stop wasting chances and giving stupid goals away, the last couple of games haven't helped my confidence on this score. I'm worried.

Hope the crowd is like Shakhtar Karagandy and not Maribor, the last thing we need is nerves being transmitted to the players.

The team virtually picks itself, I don't think I've ever seen so many TC members pick the same team for a big game.

    Gordon
    Lustig Boyata Virgil Izzy
    Broony Bitton
    Forrest Johansen Armstrong
    Griffiths

Well up for this now! Virgil, Boyata, Brown, Johansen & Griffiths have to be at the top of their games here! And everyone else but these guys are key if one of them has a * game and makes a huge difference.

How was it misleading? They beat Salzburg 3-0 at home, whilst we lost 3-1?

If anything that result should be a wee sign that we need to take these guys seriously.

The Salzburg we played had Kampl, Soriano and Alan. The Salburg they played didn't.

The difference that makes shouldn't be understated. Those 3 players really are quality.

In case you aren't fully aware of these players:

-Soriano has scored 20 goals in 26 games in Europe for Salzburg. 91 in 105 in the league.

    - Alan scored 3 times against us. He scored 59 in 89 games in the league for Salzburg, 19 in 32 in Europe and he's not even an out and out striker.

    - Kampl is quality and got a €12m move to Dortmund

I'm confident we will win the home leg but not confident we will keep a clean sheet

In that case we don't need to take Malmo seriously then.

Very funny. I'm pointing out that they played a much weaker Salzburg side to us.

And I'm pointing out that they still won the game, regardless. Their win isn't "misleading", it was still impressive considering the size of their club compared to ours.

Basically, we need to take these * very seriously, especially considering how we've performed of late.

But we actually know nothing about their replacements. Salzburg have been a consistently good side for years now. A couple of years ago they dismantled the Ajax team that a couple of months earlier had beaten us to 3rd in our CL group. Last year I remember people saying they had lost important players and yet they were a very good side indeed.

I'm willing to bet they're a very good side this year too and Malmo beat them.

This was a horrendous draw TBH.

I think people underestimate them because of the Helsingborg and Elfsborg games. We beat Helsingborg fairly comfortably but (a) Malmo are apparently a better side than that Helsingborg side were (and I thought they were decent) and (b) that was Lenny's last 16 team that disposed of them and we are not at that level yet. Elfsborg were just a poor side TBH and surely not representative of the standard of the Swedish champions, even then we were hanging on a bit on that awful pitch.

I don't know why no one is making a big deal about our wasting chances and giving away stupid goals. I know I must sound like a broken record but surely I'm not the only one worried about this?

They obviously got them at the right time as in between their CL qualifiers, Red Bull picked up 1 point from their first 9 in the league.
