Wonder what his record is like, compared to Mulgrew's (goals and assists) in that time? Both have played on the left, with Mulgrew being viewed as the defensive option. Mulgrew playing half his career at Celtic as a defensive midfielder or defender.

I suspect Charlie's will be better both domestically and in Europe.

Mulgrew took corners and freekicks for practically 3 years though.

That's not his fault that he's a threat from set pieces though ? Neither is the fact that set pieces aren't one of Forrest's attributes.

And what is your point there?

He wasn't in the box to take advantage of his threat from set pieces? He is 6'3 and good in the air.

Charlie Mulgrew - 197 games, 29 goals and 34 assists.
James Forrest - 184 games, 30 goals and 27 assists.

    In Europe:

Charlie Mulgrew - 44 games, 3 goals and 8 assists.
James Forrest - 43 games, 3 goals and 3 assists.

So Forrest marginally better altogether, Mulgrew much more effective in Europe.

As one of the most attacking players in our team and Charlie being one of the most defensive, that's pretty damning tbh.

They're even this year as well, despite Mulgrew being injured for what seems like forever.

Have you ever seen Perisic that plays for Inter used to play for Dortmund, he has that exact same running style as McGregor just a bit taller than him.

I'd say Mulgrew pips him to be honest. He's played a few more games but contributed 6 more goals.

It doesn't reflect well on Forrest at all. 6 goals/assists in 43 European games for our 'most dangerous attacking player' is awful.

It really doesn't, does it? I can remember when he was at just over 100 games he had 25 goals and 25 assists because I can remember thinking that's really good...

Must have been 3 years or so ago though.

He has his uses but he needs to shape up.

For a winger in this league, he has to be doing more. 12 league goals since the start of the 12/13 season.

I think he'll be gone in the summer.

True, very true. Keep in mind we're comparing him to Charlie Mulgrew here, not Kris Commons and the like.

I don't want rid of him, he is a useful player, he can get on and beat a man, get defences to turn and try and sit in. Even in Europe he can do that. He needs to improve his final product and he needs to take on more responsibility.

He's a good player to have around in the squad, if a bit unreliable.

Is his contract not up at the end of the season? Is a new deal even likely? All seems to have gone a bit quiet.

I think he's definitely off, he was probably our best player from August to December but then he stopped getting a game and is barely getting any time on from the bench either. He's being "Stokesed" from Ronny where he's been cast aside for no reason, which is probably that he's going to leave.

The thing is, is he ever gonna improve his final product ?

The frustrating thing is that he shows flashes of brilliance, we know he has the ability but there remains an immaturity/naivety about his play.

Ah. Aye for me he's a goner at the end of the season, even when he's come on and done well he's not really played after that, now there's probably 5 ahead of him in the pecking order. He's just not really improved enough. When he burst on to the scene I thought he'd go on and become an absolute star for us, but for a number of reasons it's not really happened for him.

If Lenny was able to spend, think he would have him. Am sure English Championship sides would come in for him and he would be on basic of £25k pw minimum. For us with the likes of GMS, Commons, Armstrong, Christie and now C K-R & Roberts, it seems he's becoming a bit of a luxury, which saddens me as he's a home grown Bhoy.
